Sammy here with an important message!

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we will be closed today to honor his legacy and reaffirm our commitment to serving our community with compassion. We encourage you to take this time to reflect on how we can all work together to make a lasting difference.

MLK Day is also recognized as a National Day of Service, and we are incredibly grateful for the dedication of our volunteers and community members who work tirelessly to support our furry friends. Your efforts, whether helping a neighbor or a pet in need, truly make an impact. As Dr. King once said, “No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.”

We'll return to our regular hours tomorrow, ready to keep working toward a brighter future for all the pets and people we serve. Thank you for being part of the change! 💙

We're celebrating our licensed veterinary technicians today for LVT week!
Crystal is our LVT and is a huge animal lover and leads our surgical floor with positivity and kindness. Crystal has been helping train Austin to transition from a CSR to a VA, and practice skills that Austin is currently learning in school. Austin started their LVT program over the summer and is beginning to dig into the core of their education and learn practical skills related to their curriculum.

Last Friday we had our biggest Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate day of the year! In one day, community volunteers trapped 127 unowned, free-roaming cats and brought them to our hospital for sterilization surgery and vaccination against rabies. Special thanks to our team, volunteers, trappers, and wonderful friends at Banfield Pet Hospital for making it all possible as well as The Lucky Paw Foundation for providing us with 18 brand new fans that aided in post-op recovery.

Smoky's (ear) tips for lucky trapping:

• Book the appointment before you bait the trap.
• Have something green* nearby to cover traps as soon as a cat is caught.
• Don't go off looking for the end of the rainbow. Set traps must be monitored at all times.
• Go light on the Lucky Charms at breakfast if you're trapping in the evening. A hungry cat is a trapped cat!

*Covers don't have to be green. That's just an ol' Irish cat's tail.

Our Smoky's team is at the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital today for high-volume community cat sterilizations. We're working alongside our SMVH colleagues and a team of veterinarians from Banfield Pet Hospital are volunteering to make this our biggest surgery day yet.

It was great to see so many familiar trapper faces during check ins this morning, and many of you got to meet each other for the first time.
