When Taki and Saki first arrived in their foster home, they were very unsure and frightened of indoor life. They were gentle but timid and would hiss at anything new or unexpected. With the help of their foster mom and a little time, patience, and treats, they've learned how nice it is to be petted all over. When they are feeling safe and are sleepy, you can pick them up and put them on your lap and they will stay for quite a while, enjoying the warmth and rubs, purring up a storm. As kittens, they also have lots of playful periods when they chase each other all around, wrestle, and turn everything into a toy. The little tabby girl, Saki, is braver than her brother and sails around the room chasing the wand toy. The handsome black and white boy, Taki, is a bit more cautious at first, but he is also a foodie and happy to be tempted by his favorite foods. They have made so much progress and continue to get more relaxed every day. They would do best in a quieter household, with adopters who will take time to let them adjust and get comfortable. They had all of their vet care and are ready for a new home. The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application here: medfieldshelter.com/adopt

Adoption update:

Hayden was very shy when she came into our care a month ago. She slowly came out of her shell and started interacting with our volunteers. She was adopted two days ago, and while she has done some hiding, we were thrilled to see how happy she is already.

"Hayden is doing really well so far. She was apprehensive the first night, but she has come out of her shell a little! She is eating well, and spends most of her time under our bed. But she comes out to spend time with us, and really enjoys being brushed."

Vanna is the sweetest nine-year-old Chihuahua. She came into our care after her owner passed away last week. She used to live with a cat and is accustomed to an owner who is around a lot. She was lonely in her kennel, so she spent the week on a cozy bed in our lobby where she could see our manager and assistant manager and she was very happy. She’s a mellow girl who doesn’t need a ton of exercise. Apply to adopt her at medfieldshelter.com/adopt

Our friends at unityfarmsanctuary in Sherborn are collecting pumpkins to feed to the animals in their care as treats. They don’t take carved or decorated pumpkins but if you have pumpkins that are still in good shape they have a drop off area as you pull in their driveway. We dropped off the Shelter‘s pumpkins today.

Today was Munch's turn to go hiking with Meaghan from Spotty Dog Hiking, and he had a great time! He is such a fun little guy. He is energetic and loves hiking but is only 25 lbs. so he fits into many types of homes. He needs to be an only dog for now. He was in a foster home with a cat who could roll with the nonstop pestering, but we don't think there are too many cats out there that would find his antics fun. https://www.petfinder.com/dog/munch-73665918/ma/medfield/a-medfield-animal-shelter-ma57/

The only thing better than Walpole Middle School hosting a Helping Homeless Pets Club is learning that they held a bake sale and chose to donate the proceeds to the Medfield Shelter. They raised an incredible $400! We’re so impressed by their hard work and thrilled to see the next generation of animal welfare advocates making a difference.

When the NH SPCA ended up with over 800 mice surrendered by an overwhelmed owner, they put out the call to New England shelters for help. We now have three male mice ready for adoption, as well as a few females who won't be available until we know if they are pregnant. Update: Zena is going to her new home on 11/21!

Zena is a gorgeous 6-year-old cat who came to us from one of the rescuers we work with. She had ten kittens (they have all been adopted) and is very glad to be done with that phase of her life. She was a great mama and is now looking forward to a life of leisure as a family pet. We don't know too much about her background, but we do know that she's very affectionate, playful, and gentle. She is friendly with the other kitties in her room, so she would likely do well in a home with other cats. She is spayed and has had all of her vet care. If you want to give this beauty a loving home, please go to medfieldshshelter.com/adopt and fill out an adoption application.

It is our favorite time of year! The Medfield Animal Shelter’s Matching Challenge Is on!

We are excited to report that, once again, a group of dedicated supporters has offered to match every donation we receive during our year-end fundraiser — up to $25,000! It’s great news for the Medfield Shelter; our adoption fees cover less than one-third of our annual expenses, and we rely on the generosity of our community to continue our work helping animals in need. The Matching Challenge doubles every gift!

It’s easy to take advantage of the Matching Challenge: Donate between November 15, 2024 and January 15, 2025. You can mail a check to Medfield Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 271, Medfield, MA 02052, or go to medfieldshelter.com to donate using your credit card (click the Donate button).

If you have been looking for a unique gift for a pet lover, a donation made in their honor is guaranteed to delight. We will send the honoree a photo card to inform them of your gift.

The Matching Challenge is our only fundraiser of the year, so please remember the animals this busy holiday season and make your gift now. Help us ensure that every pet that comes through our door receives all the services it needs to be placed in a loving home!

Update 11/16 -- Coffee has a new home lined up and is leaving tomorrow!

Meet Coffee, an adorable small-breed mix. Our best guess is ShihTzu/Poodle. He is two years old and was found as a stray. His owner was contacted by the animal control officer who found him, but they chose not to come get him. He is very fun and playful and seems to be housebroken.

He was completely matted, so he just received a short haircut thanks to groomer and longtime shelter supporter Sam Bastarache from Hilltop Canine in Franklin. Coffee is an active guy and loves to go for walks. He is not neutered but will be before adoption. Since we don't know his background, we will not place him in a home with kids under age 12.
