What is your dog’s relationship with the car?
Did you know over time you can train your pup to be less anxious in the car?

Helpful car tips to keep your pup safe and less stressed:

-Put them in the back seat.
-Use a seat belt for their weight requirement that can be clipped to a harness.
-Using a car seat will keep pets more stable and will therefore lessen anxiety.
-Behavior modification techniques and exercises taught over time extinguish and/or vastly decrease fear and stress response’s.
-Take your pup for fun car rides to the pet store, dog park, dog friendly places to teach them that the car isn’t just to go to the vet and groomer.

Let’s talk about the importance of taking your pets in the car to do fun things and get environmental exposure so they aren’t reactive in public.
Benefits:
-Your dog will learn the car isn’t just to go to the vet or groomer so they will be more relaxed in the car.
-Your puppy will learn being in public is fun and they will over time become desensitized to all the different stimuli that comes with being in different situations.
-Your dog will get enrichment being in different environments and will be happier overall
-You will learn how your pup reacts in different situations and over time learn where they thrive and where they might need more training to assist them with any reactivity.
For this and more reach out for your free consultation!
Training provides your dog the direction to shape their behavior that will enhance your bond and create a positive learning environment where they can learn and grow.

Dinner is served! Elevate dinner time to an enrichment experience. By using a puzzle toy you will turn your pets mealtime into a problem solving activity that will keep them mentally engaged. This interactive activity will also provide a physical activity for your pet. Providing these type of enrichment activities will keep your pet happy, occupied and tire them out. A bored dog is a destructive dog or a dog that will develop unwanted behaviors out of boredom.

Does your dog know to sit at your side?
This is a great tool to teach your dog to sit in different positions to teach sit cue fluency. Sitting at your side comes in handy when you are going to take them on a walk this way they are facing the correct direction and you can start with them at your knee. Does your dog pull on leash?
Pro Tip: Put them in a sit, or call their name to have them come to you.
Pro Tip: Bring high value, high scent treats such as dog grade beef jerky on walks and put it in your hand so they smell the yummy treat when asking both of the above this will help to motivate your dog to listen and to come to you willingly. As being on a walk is very distracting and they need to be offered a bigger incentive.

Teaching puppy Einstein the next stage of the Name Game while he is off leash. This allows him to completely make the decision to willingly come to me when called. This works on strengthening impulse control and concentration. This is how you build fluency into a cue by making it harder in stages and going at the pups pace. When teaching cues, I teach the 3 D’s: Distance, Duration, Distraction to achieve cue fluency in all situations that will span throughout your pups life. Let’s talk about the many types of rewards to use to continue to reinforce wanted behaviors and cues after you phase out or start to phase out treats. It is still vital to reward your dog so they continue the wanted behaviors. -Using positive reinforcement phrases such as: good job, good boy/girl, you’re so smart, you’re the bestPro Tip: using an excited tone and slightly higher pitch will excite your pup -Use play: throwing the ball, tug, favorite chew as a reward-Take your pup in the front yard on leash for a Sniffari or take them on a walk and go a different route so they have new sniffing opportunities and allow them to sniff as much as they would like.-Give your pup and enrichment toy: Puzzle Toy, Kong, Snuffle Mat Pro Tip: mix kibble and treats in a bag then put them into the item, rotate out the enrichment toys, share toys with family and friends or donate to shelters and buy a higher level as your dog masters the toys. Are you wondering what the benefits of in home training are in comparison to group training sessions?
My in home training program is 100% customized to meet the specific needs of your family, your dog and your schedule. Group training uses a one size fits all method and teaches a set curriculum. By training in your own home you have the home turf advantage of extinguishing behaviors that your dog is exhibiting only in the house that you aren’t able to work on outside of the home. You receive a tailored program designed to set you and your puppy up for long term success where we address needs and behaviors as they come up and we are able to adjust our training plan to reflect these needs. With group classes you are trained in a structured program that isn’t based on what is going on at home or the needs of your pup and family. With my program you receive one on one coaching in between your sessions and after your training is completed to ensure a smooth transfer of training. While the benefits of group classes are many and learning polite cues certainly does come in handy. With my training approaching I teach you how to put these practical cues into daily practice, using them to redirect behaviors. I get asked this question a lot and wanted to highlight the significant benefits to in home training if you were on the fence about what type of training your specific situation might need.
