The sweet-faced, lovable Labrador Retriever is America’s most popular dog breed. Labs are friendly, outgoing, and high-spirited companions who have more than enough affection to go around.

It doesn't take much to cause a tragedy. Please, take it seriously. It is highly toxic to dogs, and will make cats and ferrets very sick.

Cairn Terriers are great little dogs and thrive in an active home. Theyre great with kids (as with all dogs, they should be supervised when around children). They excel in sports geared towards their instincts to hunt and dig. They train easily, but lean towards wanting to follow their own agenda. They can be very territorial, and early socilization is a must. They're fun loving and spicy little dogs.

Cairn Terriers are happy, busy little earthdogs originally bred to fearlessly root out foxes and other small, furred prey in the rocky Scottish countryside.

A lot can happen when food, family, and festivities come together for the holidays. Consider these safety tips to keep your dog safe this Thanksgiving holiday.

1.) Be prepared for family and guest arrival. Make sure your dog is wearing proper identification in case they dash outdoors. Create a quiet, safe area for your dog if he gets overwhelmed by the hustle of additional guests.

2.) We all love Thanksgiving dinner, but it can be too rich for a dog's digestive system, if not fatal. Turkey skin can cause pancreatitis, while bones can splinter, causing lacerations or digestive punctures. Additionally, alcohol and chocolate can be toxic. To keep your dog healthy, avoid table scraps.

3.) Keep trash secure and out of reach. This goes not only for those food items that should be off-limits but also for foil or other wrappings that can cause blockages if ingested by your dog.

4.) Have your veterinarian's contact number handy, the nearest after-hours animal hospital, and the pet poison helpline (855-764-7661) readily available.

5.) After Thanksgiving dinner, grab a leash and take your dog for a walk. It can help your dog with any nervous energy related to the holiday and make it less likely for him to get into mischief.

Time to start being aware of how hot you car can get, and how quickly it heats up. Leaving the windows cracked does not have enough cooling benefit. If you can't take the dog out of the car with you, please, let your dog stay at home where it's cooler.

MERIT DOG PROJECT

"But my dog is friendly" you might say. "She's gentle!" you call after them. "She just wants to play!" you say in defense.

Of course! But let's consider the other side of the coin. The other dog your dog is greeting may be:

- Fearful of other dogs
- Anxious of greeting unfamiliar dogs
- Needing space to feel safe
- Not wanting to be bothered
- Friends with only a few dogs
- Painful
- Infectious (kennel cough IS going around right now, by the way!)
- Recovering from an injury
- Learning, and NOT looking for distractions
- Not in the mood
- Doing something else that they are more interested in

I am sure there are plenty of other reasons I have missed. It's really quite simple -- Ignore or ask! It's not hard!

If it's a "no", clip on a lead or ask your dog to stick with you/"leave-it" or whatever specific cues you've successfully taught your dog prior to having them off leash in public.

EVERYONE deserves to be able to walk in peace. Even those who are unsociable, like me!

DO NOT WALK YOUR DOGS OR HAVE THEM OUTSIDE ON HOT SURFACES DURING EXTREME HEAT!

Dogs walking or running on hot surfaces like hot pavement can easily burn their paws. This includes sand, gravel, driveways, streets, parking lots and the back bed of a pick-up truck. Any surface like this can heat up like metal and hot pavement which can quickly cause serious and very painful burns and blisters to your pets' paws.

COPIED From the Dogalogue:

Thought this was absolutely brilliant!!
The other day I was at the local public park (not a dog park, but dogs are allowed there). We were walking along in a high movement area so I had my dog on a leash. Another dog, off leash, sees us and starts approaching.
My dog needs her space so we start moving away, but the dog got to us before we could leave. My dog was stressing a little so I politely said to the woman, sorry my dog doesn't want to play and ushered her dog away.
Her dog gets the message and moves on.
Quite good, right? Here comes the juicy part:
As I’m leaving the owner comes to me with a speech more or less like this:
Hey, if your dog is nervous and doesn’t even want to play with other dogs, go somewhere else! Don’t come to the park and ruin other dogs fun.
I heard this and a wave of fury started taking over, but suddenly I think I had a lightbulb moment and switched gears completely.
With the biggest, friendliest smile, I opened my arms as wide as I could and said Ohhhhh! Come here... I want to give you a BIG hug!
With panic in her eyes she backs up, speechless and quickly starts walking away.
I said "Hey, don’t run, I’m so friendly, come on, I only want to give you a hug! I’m friendly I promise... I just want to Hug You!"
Still speechless and backing away with terror now, I said "Wait, You don’t want my friendly hug?"
She yelled No!
I said "Well neither does my dog! Have a nice day.!!!"
As I walked away, I saw her just standing there, speechless and she was leashing her dog! 😅
I think I’ll try this approach more often 🤣
