Home visits offer comfort and flexibility for pets and people at the times when you need it most Visits can be scheduled, usually within 48-72 hours, for non-emergency problems such as ear infections, eye concerns, skin infection/itch, limping, mild vomiting and diarrhea, lump evaluation, minor wound care, broken nails, urinary issues, among other conditions. Dr. Slattery has the ability to send o

ut blood/urine/stool samples to an outside lab for testing. Medical records from the visit can be forwarded on to you and your regular veterinarian and Dr. Slattery will help determine if follow up care is needed. Appointments are generally available Monday-Friday, and occasionally on weekends. Appointments can easily be set up via text to:
(484) 800-1428
or email: [email protected]

If your pet has a true emergency (such as labored breathing, inability to urinate, major trauma/wounds, profuse vomiting/diarrhea/lethargy, multiple seizures) I recommend to contact HOPE Veterinary Specialists in Malvern, Metropolitan Veterinary Associates in Norristown, or Ocean View Veterinary Hospital in you are down the shore. If your pet has ingested something toxic please call the ASPCA Pet Poison Control at (888) 426-4435, a $75 fee is normally applied to cover the care from the expert veterinary toxicologist you will speak with. For wellness care/vaccinations in PA, I recommend contacting Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital or Media Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Kelly Slattery (Pennington), VMD, owner of Home & Shore Vet, has always felt a special bond with animals and aspired to be a veterinarian almost her whole life (since 2nd grade!) Caring for the pets that people love over the years has brought her much joy and gratitude. In 2020, she decided to form her own business to offer veterinary care in the comfort of the home during the times when pets need it most. Dr. Slattery is a lifelong resident of Delaware County. She attended Marple Newtown High School, then went on to attend college at the University of Pennsylvania. She received a Master’s degree from Drexel University before attending University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine and graduating in 2010. She calls another place home as well, the town of Ocean City, New Jersey. Her parents were homeowners throughout her childhood, and her own family has a second home on the island. She began offering house calls for the pets of Ocean City in the summer of 2021. She has her own loving (and sometimes chaotic!) “zoo” at home, she and her husband have three young children, two dogs, a senior kitty, and two hermit crabs. When she is not caring for her family or pets, she enjoys reading and scheming to redecorate.

Orie and Reggie ❤️ comforting each other after they both had surgery over the past week, one for a lump between his toes, the other to remove two different kind of “lumps” 😉 Happy to report they are both recovering well! While my house call practice focuses on urgent care and home euthanasia, I have a small number of regular patients, and am grateful that I have surgery privileges at Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital if they need certain procedures performed 🐾

Last but not least - Berk! I was honestly shocked by his results. I have many Pit/Staffy mix patients who are awesome and so sweet, but I never suspected these breeds in his mix. His “Supermutt” percentage was made up of DNA from Great Pyrenees, American Eskimo and American Foxhound breeds; very interesting since he is from Mexico originally. He is constantly “hunting” and on the lookout for birds and squirrels in the backyard, so I thought he would have pointer, more hound, or heeler in the mix 🤷‍♀️ but it of course doesn’t matter, and is really cool to find out these results! 🐾

Next up - Ruby’s results from Embark!

39% Treeing Walker Coonhound
26% Supermutt
21% Beagle
14% Labrador Retriever

Embark also shares the breeds found in the “Supermutt” percentage - Ruby’s was Redbone Coonhound (what I always thought she mostly was!), American English Coonhound, Chow Chow and German Shepherd! 🐾

After being curious about my rescue pups’ mixes for years, I finally decided to test all three using Embark’s DNA breed+health test. I should have the results in about 2 weeks, and can’t wait to share! What breeds do you think they may be?? 1) Ruby 2) Berk 3) Pip….also a little more about Embark (a company that partners with Cornell) from their website: Embark tests every dog for hundreds of variants associated with genetic diseases, including MDR1 Drug Sensitivity, Hyperuricosuria & Uricemia, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (several forms), Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Exercise Induced Collapse, Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency, multiple coagulopathies, and Imerslund-Grasbeck Syndrome (selective cobalamin malabsorption). All of these may not be apparent on routine blood work or physical examination but could have a substantial impact on common things such as spay and neuter surgery, exercise, and growth curve. 🧬🔬🐾

I met Posey many years ago at my previous job, and had the privilege of caring for her again over the past few years. She was always gentle and patient as we drew blood often due to her history of autoimmune disease. I also got to watch her adorable human sister grow up over the past few years. Posey was the sweetest and strongest girl, and her family did everything they could to care for her during her amazing life, including allowing her to pass on peacefully surrounded by love at home last week ❤️‍🩹🐾

The many faces of Ellie ❤️

We said goodbye to this pretty, gentle girl with a big personality on Friday and she is deeply missed. She was always a trooper for her exams and nail trims (especially if peanut butter was around!), she loved her neighbors, she couldn’t stand storms, and was queen of the ‘side eye’. I will miss caring for her, but am thankful she is at peace now 🐾🌈

Today after spending time in his favorite weather, rain, we peacefully said goodbye to this handsome and gentle boy, Tucker. He was one of my first patients when I started making house calls down the shore and left an impression on everyone he met. He was the “mayor” of his Gardens neighborhood in OC; people would stop by his family’s home every summer for years to see him. He especially loved and left a wonderful impression on children. Rest easy, sweet boy 🐾

Dreaming of summer! Only 3 weeks until Memorial Day ☀️

This is the time of year when clients start to wonder when I will begin seeing patients at the beach. In 2020, I started my house call practice the first year of COVID for many reasons, but one of the biggest was to allow me to do the work I love while simultaneously having the availability and flexibility for my family’s needs. I want to share that things will be different moving forward, as family commitments will keep me “Home” further into summers than in the past.

While I do not have specific dates I will be available at the beach for house calls, it will likely be from mid-July through the end of August only. So whether you are a client at “Home” or the “Shore” this summer, I would recommend to just reach out if you need me and I will let you know my location and availability, and provide referrals if I am not in your area 🐾
