Not only do they make for really cute videos, but our infamous chicken challenge is a wonderful test of our dogs’ training progress. 🐓 For dogs like Mack, with high prey drive (he likes to chase things that move) this is a really tough feet especially as the birds run around looking for snacks. Does your dog like to hike with you? 🍁🪵 Drop your favorite dog-friendly trails in the comments! Being a respectful hiker where dogs are allowed off-leash means having your dog wait before going around blind corners and leashing your dog when someone is approaching. This might look like another boring video of a dog doing a down-stay in a pet store, and it kind of is. But for Maverick, this is such a huge accomplishment. 🏅 When we first met Maverick he was anxious, fearful, and would readily react out of fear and frustration towards both his handler and things in his environment that scared him. He is at the end of his board & train with us and has grown into a pup that is trying really hard to be brave and make good decisions. This video is such a good example of that. He is not as relaxed as he could be (that isn’t a happy tail for 90% of this down stay - can you spot the difference?), but he is working hard to ignore the people 🧍‍♂️ and dogs 🐕 in the background as well as the associates pushing a stock cart 🛒 around. He isn’t vocalizing (Maverick liked to yodel and squeal in his stays at first - it was HARD to be still), he is working without needing correction, and is happily taking food for his efforts. 🍪 Although he still has plenty of maturing and growing to do with his family, he is ready to start to tackle the world 🌍 one obedience session at a time.
