Who could resist this big squishy face?

Jax is another alumni dog back for a quick tune up while his family enjoys some fun in the sun ☀️ Jax is a dog that likes to resource guard space and food (did you know space can be a highly valuable resource to dogs?), so we were focused on doing lots of positive muzzle acclimation work this week. This was both for his family’s peace of mind in specific situations but also to mitigate any stress in situations where he may NEED to wear a muzzle.

Right now, he’s a 10/10 very good boy 🥰

“Did she leave yet so I can take a nap??” 😴

Sadie was hamming it up after her go home lesson this morning. We love seeing the dogs we train ace their reintegration sessions, and Sadie was no exception. She is now well on her way to enjoying park walks and trips to pet stores with her mom & dad!

One of our favorite things to tell our clients is to find ways for “obedience” to just become part of your routine. We can promote calm, stable behavior in the house by “shaping”… i.e., rewarding (calmly!) moments where our dogs choose to relax near us, OR by simply making certain behaviors a habit.

Lucky, the Doberman, is demonstrating making place while we prepare dinner a habit. While Harry offered a down on the kitchen mat, which I rewarded with praise and a 🍪 cookie. A great example of shaping calm, relaxed behavior!

Just hanging out, and taking the world in, is one of the more underrated exercises in dog training.

Sadie has come leaps and bounds with her reactivity, all because we’ve allowed her nervous system to just 💤 calm 💤 down a bit with slow and steady exposure work.

🎄🐶 Why a “Christmas Puppy” Sounds Magical… but Often Isn’t 🐶🎄

From a dog trainer who’s cleaned up a lot of holiday surprises 👀 💩

Picture this: twinkly lights, cozy mornings, and a tiny puppy with a bow. The kids are thrilled and you have a new work-from-home snuggle buddy. Perfect, right?
Now fast-forward three weeks…

🎁 The decorations are coming down
🎁 The schedule goes back to chaos
🎁 And the puppy? Still needs structure, training, and about 1,000 potty breaks that probably have been a 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 lacking during the holiday melee.

Here’s the truth:
• Puppies thrive on routine, not holiday madness
• December is busy, loud, and unpredictable—hard for a baby dog to learn good habits and for families to establish them (I see you “New Year’s Resolutions”… 🪩)
• Many “Christmas puppies” hit training programs in just a few months because no one planned past the wrapping paper and snuggles

That doesn’t mean don’t get a puppy.
We LOVE puppies.
It means don’t make a lifetime commitment as a seasonal impulse buy.

💡 Pro move?
Wrap up a plan instead: a future pickup date, a trainer lined up, and a schedule that sets your puppy up to win for the next ten years, not ten weeks.

Because the best gift you can give a dog isn’t under the tree…
It’s leadership, consistency, and training done right. 🐾
