Being a respectful hiker where dogs are allowed off-leash means having your dog wait before going around blind corners and leashing your dog when someone is approaching. If your dog is not off-leash reliable, a properly utilized long line or flexi lead (gasp!!) is a great alternative! ๐ฒ๐ณ

This might look like another boring video of a dog doing a down-stay in a pet store, and it kind of is. But for Maverick, this is such a huge accomplishment. ๐
When we first met Maverick he was anxious, fearful, and would readily react out of fear and frustration towards both his handler and things in his environment that scared him. He is at the end of his board & train with us and has grown into a pup that is trying really hard to be brave and make good decisions. This video is such a good example of that. He is not as relaxed as he could be (that isnโt a happy tail for 90% of this down stay - can you spot the difference?), but he is working hard to ignore the people ๐งโโ๏ธ and dogs ๐ in the background as well as the associates pushing a stock cart ๐ around. He isnโt vocalizing (Maverick liked to yodel and squeal in his stays at first - it was HARD to be still), he is working without needing correction, and is happily taking food for his efforts. ๐ช Although he still has plenty of maturing and growing to do with his family, he is ready to start to tackle the world ๐ one obedience session at a time.

Sammy is a reactive, easily over stimulated, little guy that is here to get a much better handle on his reactivity and to help him feel more comfortable and confident out in the world.
Often, when we get dogs in like Sammy, we spend the first day or two of their programs taking long line decompression walks to allow them to better settle into our routine and set them up for success in their program!
