With eyes set on our Riot’s upcoming competition in IGP, my focus this year for APA Weight Pull Nationals was my club and people in our coaching tree, in addition to helping the event run smoothly (note to self: running the board of dogs pulling and working your own dog is HARD! 😅).

We are so proud of our team - our group brought home FIFTEEN trophies 🏆 including three division awards🏅for their efforts as well as lots of personal growth, new milestones and goals, and watched some stellar dogs on the track. We were also awarded a Sportsmanship Award as a club 🩶❤️ While the wins are great, building such a supportive, positive group of competitors with great mentors behind us is what we are most proud of! After all, if your coach doesn’t have a coach, you might need a new coach 😉

Thank you as always to the APA and everyone involved for creating a competitive environment that also welcomes and challenges newer pullers into the game! We’ll see you next year!

The hardest part about loving dogs is having to say goodbye. 💔

Anyone that’s trained with us for some time probably recognizes her - Kona was our helper dog for dozens of lessons, taught many dogs the art of the play bow but also when enough was enough, and was a puppy raiser extraordinaire. We unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our girl yesterday, so please bear with us as we take some time to grieve and remember her legacy with us.

Nothing to see here, just a cute, little, Cattle Dog making a HUGE breakthrough with her training. 🥰

Callie is a young ACD that is quite nervous, but is also full of all of the Cattle Dog ✨ thoughts ✨. If you’re unfamiliar with the breed, these dogs have been selected for their fast response to activity/motion/energy changes from the things around them. Unfortunately, sometimes without an appropriate outlet this turns that propensity for hyper vigilance into lots of impulsive behaviors like nipping, herding (circling and barking), reactivity on and off leash, and other self reinforcing behaviors.

Callie needed a little help figuring out how to manage her emotions and is now on her way to a much more balanced future!

Does your dog actually understand the “walk” or “heel” command?

We don’t generally expect our pet dogs to do a “call to heel” type of exercise, but it is a great way to check the dog’s understanding of the command (and if they’re happy to be there!). Maverick is doing a great job demonstrating this exercise today on our walk in the park where we checked his understanding of the cue “walk.” We can’t wait for his family to start to enjoy some hikes with this busy birdy boy!

Meet Blu & Diesel!

Near or far, we LOVE when our clients stay in touch and come back to us with the baby dogs! Diesel is an alumni dog back for some follow-up training after his family admitted they got a little lax with him, and his new sister, Blu, is here with him as well to get a rock solid training foundation. They’ve been here about a week and are already crushing their training goals!
