Quill’s Daily ink: repost of a oldie but goodie.

Every pet you own goes through stages, the first day you brought him home, the baby stage, the many learning stages, those boundaries, and the golden years, when they have learned all you wanted them to learn and you just enjoy each other’s company.

Then before you know it, one day, they turn a corner and are old. They have aged overnight.
They move a little slower and they may have good days and some bad days. You, mourn the young version of your pet, the one who had so much energy and bounce and some days you see a glimpse of that young pet, and it brings tears to your eyes, because you know that the journey is going to end.

So, with anything that is worthwhile, enjoy everyday with your pet, they are here to teach us that life is short, take time to smell the flowers and watch the clouds roll by and love with all your heart. 💜

I have over the years been a witness to many of your joys with your pets and I’ve cried over the loss of them with you. You and your pets are part of my extended family. I so, appreciate being able to be a part of your lives. Thanks for sharing your pets with me💜

I just read a article about a small family run grocery store in NJ who was filing chapter 11. They had been in business for over 100 years. I thought it was so very sad. Reminded me of our beloved Medina Hardware, miss that store so much! They were my go to!

Did you know Whole Foods is owned by Amazon? I didn’t, I have never shopped at Whole Foods and def won’t be doing so now.

Small companies have a very difficult time competing with the large companies, I know I do. That’s what a large company does, they can afford to initially take a loss because they get the product at a better cost, it’s a waiting game until they choke out the small guy or just buy him out.

I am seeing this with our local Veterinarians, dog food companies, and so much more. I am not seeing this as a good thing. That small business once absorbed by the large one is never the same and neither is the product.

Your small companies care about you as a customer, they care about the products or services they sell or provide. Large corporations only care about the bottom line.

I like to say and I’m sure I will say it again and again.
I am so very grateful for the people near and far who shop at our small business. I appreciate you very much. You really don’t know how grateful I am.

You can really make a difference when you eat, shop and use services that are provided by small companies. Try it some time, you might like it!

My dumb brother is going to the Vet at 9am this morning. He tripped up the deck step like a dumb dumb and his foot has been bothering him ever since.

Usually we are grace personified, but that day he was a klutz personified!

So, the bottom line, Mum, might be late opening today, she hopes not, but just doesn’t know how long it will take.

Thursdays we normally open 10-6 Mum, will give a heads up that she opened.

I think that this is true as well when someone you know or even a stranger tells you you can’t do something. Just do it! Prove them wrong. Mum, can’t tell you how many people told her she shouldn’t do her shop, that it was going to fail.

If you have’t noticed yet, Mum is sentimental, She keeps things that are old, that hold meaning for her, a cigar box of her Pappy’s, A chair of her Nanny’s, the teeth marks in our steps from numerous puppies, a screwdriver with the end chewed.

All of these things remind her of the love, of the people and dogs that she has loved and who have loved her. She will always have the old, she loves the sparkly, but the old and not so new, reminds her of so much love. When she is having a bad day and she sees one of these things, which are so much more than an object, they make everything ok.

Hope your Saturday is awesome, it looks like it’s going to be a nice day! Take time to enjoy the people and pets who matter to you. Tomorrow is not promised.

Quills daily ink: In the early days when our kitchen was in the front of the shop, A classic Finn counter surfing story occurred.

One of our local lawyers walks into the shop to pick up treats for his grand dog. One of the girls who worked for Mum at the time just came in at the same time, set her breakfast Sammy on the counter, and she takes care of the customer. Meanwhile without her knowledge, Finn, consumed her Sammy and went and laid down. She turns around and says where is my Sammy?? and the customer pipes up, he ate it! Her response was, why didn’t you say something???

Finn, was a master at enlisting anyone to get what he wanted. And this customer thought is was great fun to be in on it.

This time of year, ants are in the house. I choose not to do chemicals at all anymore, because of the dogs and other wildlife. But want the ants in the house to be gone. so…….

Ants outside I don’t touch.

This method is all natural and one I’m just trying this year. We will see how well it works. I just mixed this up this morning and you can see by the trails the ants have been busy.

Make sure you mix the 3 ingredients well, this is important so, the ants get both the sugar and baking soda. The baking soda is what does the job.

Mix 5 Tablespoons of baking soda, 5 Tablespoons of powdered sugar and 3 Tablespoons of water. Place in a 2 inch high bowl or other dish.

So yesterday, I got my Deerhound, puppy fix. Sweet little, 4 month old Ionia came to the shop and of course I fell in love. Thanks so much Katie and family for bringing her in to show me. You all made my day!
