⚠️ Medical Monday: Rabies Alert for Oklahoma Residents ⚠️

Several positive rabies cases have already been confirmed in Oklahoma this year. To protect your family and animals, make sure all pets and livestock are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

🐶 Dogs and cats 12 weeks or older are eligible for vaccination.
📅 A booster is required one year after the initial shot, then every 1 to 3 years depending on the vaccine type.

Last year, a dog in Cleveland County tested positive for rabies—it had previously been vaccinated but was not current on its shots. Staying up to date is critical for protection.

What you need to know about rabies in Oklahoma:

🦨 Primary carriers: Skunks and bats
🦠 Transmission: Through saliva, typically via bite wounds
🧤 Handling bats: Always wear gloves! Even if you don’t feel a bite, bat teeth are tiny and you might be bitten without knowing it. Handling a bat with bare hands is considered an exposure.

✅ Be proactive:

Keep vaccinations current

Avoid contact with wild animals

Report unusual wildlife behavior

“Baby Bella Bear” aka Bella got her first nail trim! She’s only 10 weeks old and barely 1 #!

Did you know that I do 1st puppy nail trims for only $10?? I like to get them use to nail trims as early as possible so that they aren’t scare later in life!

Jax was an awesome boy for his ear cleaning and hair pluck today!

Some dogs, like poodles and poodle mixes, grow extra hair in their ears. Sometimes groomers will pluck these hairs out, but some do not. Jax has a LOT of hair in his ears, which can lead to ear infections because the hair traps moisture, bacteria, and yeast.

It takes a village starting before the sun comes up to prepare for pets to arrive at our clinics. Check in, labeling, crating, and assuring pet owners is just part of it. Tons of hours and paperwork go into each clinic and that doesn’t include the clean up when the pets come back. It may be only 40 pets a month but it’s 40 pets that will not contribute to the pet overpopulation and will live healthier lives.
