Meet Dr. Rutt! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ

Dr. Rutt earned her doctorate from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts in 2016 and completed her clinical rotations at Colorado State University. After a small animal rotating internship at VCA Animal Specialty Group in San Diego, she practiced emergency medicine there for 5 years.

In 2021, she joined ASEC to be closer to family. Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Rutt graduated from the University of South Florida in 2012. She has special interests in diagnostic imaging, integrative medicine, and triage.

Outside of work, Dr. Rutt loves spending time with her husband and daughter, or relaxing with friends. Sheโ€™s also a proud cat mom to Stache and Marinara Sauce. As an avid feline enthusiast, Dr. Rutt is always excited to see her next kitty patient! ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ

Happy Hug Your Cat Day! ๐Ÿฑ Did you know that there are scientifically proven health benefits to cat ownership?

โฃ Cat owners have a lowered risk of heart disease and stroke due to the relaxing effects felines have on their humans which minimizes stress and lowers blood pressure.

โฃ A cat's purr creates vibrations at a frequency of 20-140 HZ, and studies have shown that frequencies in the 18-35 HZ range have a positive effect on human joint mobility after injury.

โฃ If you spend 15-30 minutes a day petting or playing with your cat it can boost your mood! A result due to a rise in serotonin and a decrease in cortisol.

Showing your cat love and affection will let them know you care for them too - so give your cat extra lovin' today and give them a hug!

๐Ÿšจ Emergency Tips ๐Ÿšจ

If you find yourself in a pet emergency situation, here are a few tips that may help:

๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚๏ธ Step 1: Remain Calm. Keep a cool head and resist the urge to try home remedies.

๐Ÿ“ž Step 2: Call ASEC at (321) 725-5365 to inform our staff about your emergency. We'll guide you through important first aid procedures and be ready for your arrival.

๐Ÿค” Step 3: Be cautious. Even the most gentle pet can react unexpectedly when injured. If unsure, gently tie a soft muzzle around the mouth for safety.

๐Ÿ• Step 4: Secure your furry friend. Dogs on leashes, cats in carriers ensure safe transport.

๐Ÿš— Step 5: Drive carefully to ASEC. Find us on the SW corner of Eau Gallie Blvd and Croton Rd in Melbourne. Unload at the covered portico emergency entrance, assistance available if needed.

Your pet's safety is our top priority! If you have any questions, please never hesitate to reach out to us! Our team is here to help 24/7 ๐Ÿพ

While you're having fun with family and friends this Memorial Day Weekend, remember the following tips to help keep your pets safe this holiday:

โญ Cookouts are popular this holiday weekend, but the food and drink you serve your guests may be dangerous for pets. A few especially toxic examples include alcohol, raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate, and avocado.

โญ Never leave your pets unsupervised around a pool, lake, or ocean. If you take your dog on a boat, we highly recommend having them wear a floatation device and keep them from drinking salt water. Also, try to keep your dog from drinking pool water, which contains potentially dangerous chemicals.

โญ Be sure that your pet has appropriate ID tags and up-to-date microchip information. People leaving doors open and loud noises such as fireworks or thunderstorms can all increase your petsโ€™ chances of escaping.

โญ Be sure your pet has easy access to plenty of water so they don't get dehydrated - preferably in a shady spot, especially if they are spending a lot of time outside.

As a reminder, our hospital will be open 24hrs this holiday in case an emergency occurs!

Pool days are the best days! While a day at the pool should be fun and refreshing, we should always be prepared with these safety tips:

๐Ÿพ Limit access - Be sure to put a fence around a pool so your pet cannot fall in or jump in on their own.
๐Ÿพ Donโ€™t let your pet drink chlorinated water - Always be sure to have fresh, clean water for your pets to keep them hydrated.
๐Ÿพ Keep an eye on pool toys - These toys are often choking hazards for pets.
๐Ÿพ Safely store pool chemicals - It is best to keep these chemicals out of reach.
๐Ÿพ Be aware - Pets can get overheated even when swimming. Always keep an eye on them and watch for any signs of this.

With the rise of spring comes along an increase of pollen as flowers bloom and grasses, weeds, and trees flourish. Just like people, pets can suffer from seasonal allergies. Here are a few tips to help reduce exposure during allergy season:

๐ŸŒธ Bathe pets more often
๐ŸŒผ Wipe them down after going outside
๐ŸŒณ Wash their bedding weekly
๐ŸŒป Keep your home tidy (especially rugs and upholstered furniture)
๐ŸŒท Replace air filters

If you notice your pet is experiencing any consistent symptoms of irritation or discomfort, visit your veterinarian to help evaluate their condition and discuss treatment options.
