Good morning, everybody! We are disappointed to let you know that the power still has not been fully restored at Pet Pros Melbourne, and we will not be able to open again today.
It’s a long story, but suffice it to say that partial power was restored to the shop Friday morning. That power only enables a few lights and outlets to work. We have insufficient lighting, no A/C, and big extension cords all across the floor to keep our freezers plugged into the few working outlets. Therefore, it’s just not safe to open for regular business.
For those of you who frequent our freezer inventory, rest assured your favorite variety is unspoiled! Before the storm, we condensed 6 freezers of food tightly into 4 freezers (set at -16 degrees), and added 2 cases of water bottles around the perishable items to act as ice packs in case of a power outage. The freezers were not opened at all during the approximately 18 hours they were without power. They were still well below the 40 degree danger point when they were plugged in, so we are confident our frozen inventory wasn’t damaged.
We are hoping power will be fully restored by Monday morning so we can resume our normal hours (and normal lives), but FPL has not given us a time estimate yet. Any regular customers who have an urgent need for pet food before we are able to reopen can message us here on FB, and we’ll do our best to find a time to meet you at the shop to keep your pets eating their regular food in the meantime. Viki will be checking the messages periodically and will do her best to accommodate everyone.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We miss you and are looking forward to seeing you as soon as possible!
