2024 was a year of highs and lows for our little shelter. We had the op-purr-tunity to unite so many wonderful cats with their forever families, quite a few sad to odd medical cases, and we lost a few of our older, permanent residents.

None of this care would have been possible without the immense generosity of your donations that we recieved this year. Because of this generosity we are able to work, 365 days, cleaning, feeding, housing, and caring for all of the cats in our little shelter. This includes imporant life saving medical care.

Your kind donations allowed us to make repairs, maintain, and revamp our buildings to better the lives and comfort for our permanent resident cats. Thanks to you, we were able to refinish the floor in our second building over the holidays!

We hope that in 2025 to continue and expand our efforts, and that you will extend your generosity to us again so that we may have another great year for the cats.

Feline Friday are Lumpy and Junior!

These brothers were brought by their owner so he could get his life together.
Lumpy (who has the white nose) is very forward and affectionate, but doesnt seem to like any cat besides his brother in his space.
Junior (orange nose) is a little more shy at first but if you take the time to sit down and talk to him, he warms up and enjoys being pet and having his chin scratched.
They are both overweight and would do best on a scheduled wet food diet and not being free fed dry food as they were in their pervious home.
Come see them Wednesday through Sunday noon to 3, Saturday noon to 4.

It’s with profoundly heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of Charlie’s passing. Charlie was known as the mascot of our shelter, the “manager”, the official door greeter. This majestic man made his way to our shelter with his sister, Carol, almost a decade ago. They were adopted into separate homes, where Charlie ultimately was returned to our shelter for peeing where he shouldn’t. He did get adopted a second time, but was heedlessly dumped outside and ended up in the custody of Animal Control. We ALWAYS take our cats back when an adoption doesn’t work out, so we went and got our boy! And that’s how Charlie became a staple of HSSB, earning him a ‘permanent resident’ status. Charlie has been diligently managing the shelter (while lounging on top of the desk, of course!) and carefully supervising the washing of the dishes for the last 7 years. That dedicated leader never missed a day! 😂🥹 Earlier this week, staff noticed his belly was a bit “rounder” than usual (his steroids meds cause some swelling). After visits to two different vet’s yesterday, we received heartbreaking news. His abdomen was indeed swollen, with lots of air. He most likely has a tear somewhere internally, and surgery would be too invasive for this old man. We were left with only one agonizing option. Staff held a goodbye ceremony this morning before he was solicitously transported to the vet, where a dedicated staff member stayed by his side as he crossed the rainbow bridge. His LOUD, raspy purrs that could be heard clear across a room will definitely be one of the things we’ll miss most about this sweet boy. Rest in peace, wonderful man 🌈

Feline Friday are Emerson and Egg!

These girls had a rough start at life in a barn and mom probably didn't get the right nutrition en utero, so everyone we got from this litter doesn't see too well! They have been to an eye specialist and have been cleared to be healthy outside of having bad eye sight and will learn their way around a home just fine!
They are spayed, tested and vaccinated and are very sweet, playful girls that can go home together or to a home with a nice cat friend to play with.

Giving Tuesday is coming up fast! 🙌🎉

We appreciate donations any day of the year, but this is a very special day to GIVE to your favorite non-profit. Most businesses will match your monetary donation, so don't forget to check with your workplace!

There are many ways to GIVE to HSSB, and we are forever grateful to our community for the love. Take a look at our website to donate much needed funds or wishlist items, or apply for our volunteering and fostering opportunities! Another great way to save our cats is to tell your friends and family about us -- maybe they will GIVE a forever home!

Your kindness is saving lives here at the shelter. Your generosity can change the world for these cats. Your love is priceless.

Thank you,
The kitties of HSSB 🐱

For Feline Friday we really want to highlight Viola! Our freshly spayed, hardworking mom!

Viola came to us heavily pregnant and with her first litter of kittens. She quickly had 4 kittens once she was in a safe foster home and was a very attentive mom to them. When someone brought two, day-old kittens that had recently been orphaned, she took care of them too! (after some very suspicious sniffs of the tiny newcomers)
She's tired of the mom life and would like to relax as an only cat in close proximity of her new owner. She enjoys most humans, and loves crunchy treats, and pets and will stand in your way to get them!
Come see her Wednesday through Sunday noon to 3, Saturday noon to 4.
