We’ve been extremely busy this summer but I wanted to pop in and remind everyone about safety with your pups in this heat. North Texas is due for some of the hottest temps of the summer in the next 2 weeks. Please take precaution with your dogs by limiting outside time, avoiding walks between 9am and 9pm, and making sure they stay hydrated!

Please protect your babies!🙏🏼 If pets paws do get injured, we have amazing Paw Balm to help heal paws. ❤️🐶

To my human moms & dads, this is what happens to my paws when you take me out in the scorching sun ☀️ when the pavement is so hot !

Remember I sweat through my paws, so in this heat I can’t get rid of my sweat as my paws are burning. Missing my walk won’t harm me. Please let me just relax indoors and take me out when the sun is down🐾

If you see someone walking their dog on hot pavement, ask them to take off their shoes for the remainder of their walk home. Maybe then they'll understand.

Happy July 4th!! To all our Fosters who have one of our dogs, and maybe those of you who do not want your dog looking like that tomorrow. ⬇️ PLEASE, PLEASE make sure that they have one one of our collars on, (along with that pretty one you got for them is fine) have your crates set up in a safe quiet place tonight, maybe turn on the TV, music, or just sit with them. Or Thunder shirt's on, some of you use calming meds, make sure those are given in plenty of time to to work. If your having folks over, please make sure, gates are secure, doors are shut every time folks come in & out. Watch what everyone is feeding them, because we all know how Labs Love to Eat!! If your Foster dog should get out tonight, please contact me ASAP. Thanks!

We’re enjoying our staycation! Hope all of you and your pets are keeping as cool as possible! It’s hot out there! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Extreme heat is dangerous for us, as well as for your family pets. Here are some tips to help ensure your pet stays safe this summer:

🐕Never leave your pet in a hot vehicle, even for a few minutes. The inside temperature of the car can quickly reach 120 degrees even with the windows cracked open.
🐾Limit exercise on hot days. Exercise in the early morning or evening hours.
🐶Walk your pet in the grass if possible, to avoid hot surfaces burning their paws.
🐕‍🦺If your pet is outside, make sure they have access to shade and plenty of cool water.
🐈‍Water safety is important for your furry friends. Do not leave pets unsupervised around a pool—they aren’t all good swimmers
🐱Open windows or doors are a temptation for pets to try to get outside. Keep all doors and unscreened windows closed, and make sure screens are tightly secured

Each year, many dogs are lost and injured due to fireworks. Please plan to keep them safe INSIDE. Turn on the radio or TV to muffle the noise. Have proper identification on your pet. Distract your pet by playing with them.

If your pet is microchipped, your chances of reuniting with a lost pet will be so much higher! But you must register the microchip with your current contact information.

Please keep your pets safe!

It’s been a bit since our last reminder. It’s too hot to walk your dogs! This surface temperature was taken at 2:41pm on the sidewalk in front of a house in North Creek in Melissa, Texas. PLEASE DO NOT walk your dogs on this. The grass is still 135. So don’t think it’s a better option. The other thing to think about it heat radiates off the concrete and earth and dogs are low to the ground and feel the full brunt of this heat. So what time do you walk your dogs? Before 8am and after 9pm. If you have a bully breed we suggest only walking them after 9pm if at all. Our policy is only after 9pm for short snout breeds and depending on concrete surface temperature at that hour when we are there. We check concrete temps often!

**Edited to add: I should have used the same term “short snout” breeds instead of bulldog breed. I have edited my original post.

**Edit #2 since it was mansplained to me I need to calibrate my thermometer, Justin just took the temp on our concrete and it was 103. Grass was 102. STILL TOO HOT TO WALK YOUR DOGS or have them outside for long.

🤣🤣 Reminder now is to get plans in place for your dog for the week of 4th of July!

July 4th is only about 3 weeks away -- have you checked to be sure you have an adequate supply of Trazodone or other medications that your vet prescribes to keep your dog/s calm during loud noise events?

Here in Texas, we've had a LOT of thunderstorms this Spring, so some of us have used up a good amount of the calming drugs we keep on-hand. Don't get caught empty-handed when the fireworks start up in your neighborhood! Check the medicine cabinet and request refills as needed.
