In observance of the upcoming holiday season, our offices will be closed on the following dates to allow our team to celebrate the holidays with their families:

Melrose Office - December 25 and January 1, 2025
Hawthorne Office - December 24, 25, 26, 31, and January 1 and 2, 2025.

We kindly ask that you plan ahead for any prescription diet or medication refills that your pet may need before the holidays, as there may be shipping delays from our suppliers. In accordance with new AAHA guidelines regarding canine vaccinations, all canine patients that are boarded in our facility will be required to be up-to-date on Leptospirosis vaccinations, effective January 1, 2025. This will be in addition to our current requirements, which are Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella vaccinations, as well as a f***l flotation to ensure our facility remains parasite-free!

Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial infection that can affect all pets, and can even be transmitted to humans. Ensuring all pets are vaccinated helps protect all members of your family.

If your pet hasn't received their Leptospirosis vaccinations, don't worry! Schedule their vaccination with us today by calling at 352-475-2326 (Melrose) or 352-481-4333 (Hawthorne). Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep our facility safe and healthy for all!

The AAHA 2023 Canine Vaccination Guidelines have now officially been updated to reflect a change in status of the leptospirosis vaccine from non-core to core.

In observance of Thanksgiving, Lake Area Animal Hospital will be closed tomorrow, November 28th, 2024 to allow our team to spend time with their loved ones. We will reopen Friday, November 29th, with normal business hours.

Due to the impending effects of Hurricane Milton, Lake Area Animal Hospital will be closing today, October 9th, at 12pm and will remain closed tomorrow, October 10th. We expect to reopen on Friday, October 11th, with normal business hours, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

We are continuing to monitor Hurricane Helene and how it may affect our area. Out of precaution, our Hawthorne office will be closed on September 26th and we expect to reopen that office with normal business hours on Tuesday, October 1st.
