Did you know? 🐾
On July 6, 1921, Sergeant Stubby — a stray-turned-hero and short brindle bull terrier mix — became an officially decorated hero of World War I. 🇺🇸
Stubby was the first dog ever promoted to sergeant in the U.S. Army! 💂♂️🐕
He could sniff out poison gas, bark warnings to soldiers in the trenches, and even captured a German soldier.
Though his award wasn’t a formal military commendation, it symbolically confirmed Stubby — who also earned one wound stripe and three service stripes — as one of the greatest war dogs in U.S. history. 🏅
For nearly a decade after the war, until his passing in 1926, Sgt. Stubby remained one of the most beloved and famous animals in America. ❤️
🐾 Let’s take a moment to Honor all who served — both two-legged and four-legged heroes — who gave their Loyalty and Courage in Service to Our Country. 🇺🇸
