Project Highlight: St. Jude – ARC West Lawn St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
BPD was contacted by The Crump Firm – Architects to provide a creative design for St. Jude’s new Advanced Research Center front lawn area. St. Jude had a vision of a useable space where people can gather on campus. As a team, BPD conceptualized their vision and designed a comfortable seating area with overhead trees, umbrella shades, and tables and chairs. St. Jude’s impact on the City of Memphis and the nation reminds us how honored we are to be involved on their campus.

Project Highlight: Tennessee Brewery Tennessee Brewery Looney Ricks Kiss
One of the most rewarding feelings is going back to older projects to see the space thriving, being used, and maintained. We saw numerous tours being given by the leasing office and tenants roaming around the courtyard. The Tennessee Brewery is a historic project in Downtown Memphis where we preserved the existing character of the site and its surrounding area. This is an easy one to highlight for y’all to see.

Blair and Brandon have a passion to grow this profession. Last week they both attended the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) annual meeting in Buffalo, NY. This weeklong conference gathered CLARB MBM and MBE’s from across the US and world to share and learn from others and help set direction for the future of licensure.

As an MBM for Tennessee’s A&E Licensing Board, amongst his other responsibilities, Blair participated in a panel discussion outlining this Bylaws Workgroup’s findings and suggested modification. A very lively discussion ensued, and you can imagine, Blair enjoyed it all. Brandon was selected as Chair for one of the Test Writing Committees for the Landscape Architecture Registration Exam (LARE). He has been on the committee for 4 years.

BPD is proud and thankful for Blair and Brandon’s continuous commitment to this profession and CLARB. We appreciate their dedication to landscape architecture.

This stunning residential project is tucked into the lot about half a mile from the main road. The lot consists of rolling hills, wooded areas and wetland environments. Every view within this property is an experience.

BPD’s design scope was to enhance the property entrance, create a large driveway near the house to provide parking for events, landscape design throughout the entry and new drive and garage, and grading for proper stormwater drainage.

Currently under construction, we wanted to share the progress of our designs come to life for these great clients of ours. We have collaborated with a strong team including .m.cate.interiors Baltz & Sons Concrete and we are thankful to have built these great relationships throughout the project.

Blair Parker is known for his involvement in our community, and that includes our profession. We are pleased that he has been reappointed for a third four year term by Governor Lee to the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners (A&E Board), Tennessee’s licensing board for Architects, Engineers, Landscape Architects and Interior Designers. His passion for the design professions makes him a perfect choice to represent us all and the citizens of Tennessee. BPD is humbled and honored to have this kind of experience and leadership within our studio.

It’s not too late to remedy Mulch Volcanoes!
🌳 Thanks to Bracy's Nursery for sharing post from Donald Moore in ISA Study Group:
“Mulch volcanoes” are excessive piles of mulch materials applied around the base of trees. This is not an acceptable practice, as it disturbs healthy trunks and can cause abnormal root growth, above the soil.
🌳 Mulch Volcanoes also encourage bark rot at the base of the tree.

On a recent outing to the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, BPD ran into a number of unique plants while wandering the gardens. It is always a treat walking the gardens finding new plants and cultivars. On our recent outing we came across a beautiful tree that we believe deserves highlighting. The Weeping Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum ‘Pendulum’), located at the Bowlin Stage in the garden, terminates the view from the South Lawn. The two trees frame the stage nicely and provides a stunning sculptural surprise that is intriguing from a distance and up close. With beautiful fall color and a surprisingly sweet fragrance of cotton candy during the fall, this tree is a unique specimen.

The month of April is recognized as World Landscape Architecture Month! For Blair Parker Design, landscape architecture is our livelihood. We strive to create outdoor spaces in a manner that enhances the environment and its users while emphasizing the importance of resilient solutions.

The new Carlisle Construction Materials polyiso manufacturing plant in Sikeston, Missouri has earned the first LEED Platinum v4 certification in North America for a manufacturing facility. LEED Platinum is the highest award for energy efficiency designated by the US Green Building Council. BPD provided design and LEED documentation for the landscape design, which included over 30 acres of natural seeding areas to reestablish native grassland habitat. We also assisted in the overall pedestrian experience design including seating and patio design, trail design and layout, and trail wayfinding signage. These elements provide outdoor recreation and enjoyment opportunities for employees and staff.

The courtyard renovations at Holy Communion Church are full steam ahead! The hardscape, provided by Baltz & Sons Concrete, and masonry, by Travis Nabors Masonry, are both high quality craftsmanship. We look forward to this project continuing to develop and filling it up with people to enjoy the space!

Our second project to be selected as a finalist for the Business Journal is the Historic Conwood Flats apartments in the historic S***f District. This project was selected as a finalist for the Renovation - Large category.
