Here at HSO, we take playtime very seriously. It's a great way for our pets to learn social skills and get exercise at the same time!
On that note, HSO is looking for volunteers! The next Volunteer Orientation is coming up Thursday October 5th at 2:30pm at the shelter.
***Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and work clothes. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. ***

Kittens knead their mother while nursing to stimulate milk flow and bonding hormones, but adult cats continue the behavior to show pleasure and contentment.
As you can see, our very own Ms. Frizzle is an expert at making biscuits, not to mention a Grade A lap cat!

Humans often experience psychological trauma after an amputation, but dogs simply adapt and live their best lives.

Huskies are well adapted to cold weather, having been bred for many years to pull sleds over miles. However, in a home environment, they need plenty of exercise and daily training to stay happy and healthy.
Did you know Huskies also love to talk and sing? They're very expressive, vocal dogs with big personality. With the right amount of exercise and training, they make great family pets!
HSO is calling out for kitten foster homes!!!
We are desperately in need of volunteers willing to foster the many kittens on our waiting list. The average time commitment is 2-6 weeks, and the shelter provides all food, bedding, toys, and medical care.
Early handling and socialization is critical for kittens because it makes them more open and friendly with people throughout their lives. It's also a great way to get kids and grandkids involved!

This week, HSO is in need of laundry detergent, paper towels, spray can cheese, hot dogs for giving meds, and chew toys (especially squeaky ones!).
Okay, that last one was Valerie's idea! As you can see, this special girl loves her toys. Even on three legs, she shows them who's boss! Valerie is an 8 month old Australian cattle dog mix who is spayed and up to date on her shots. HSO is helping her recover from a leg amputation so she can scoot on to her forever home!
