Stopped by a spooky circus on our walk today. 🎃🎪 The dogs were most impressed by the lion tamer, obviously. 🦁 🐶

Who loves pibbles?! 🙌🙌🙌

October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month and you know we looove ! 🥰 These all too often misunderstood dogs are just that…DOGS 🐶 and like all other dogs, they deserve to be loved, cared for, and safe. ❤️

There are many ways to celebrate pit bull type dogs this month and every other month such as:

1) Fostering or adopting a pibble!
2) Volunteering at your local shelter or pit bull rescue.
3) Advocating and educating! 🙌
4) Spreading truth about these dogs (without putting other doggos down).
5) Giving a pibble some love. 🥰

Big Benny (middle) is a super special boy and has a very special place in our hearts. 🥰 Not only is he ginormous and gorgeous, but he’s incredibly sweet and loving. However, his huge size doesn’t come without its fair share of challenges. Larger dogs cost more; not just their food but also their medical needs and other supplies (beds, crates, collars, etc...everything needs to be BIGGER). They also require more training and need to practice stronger impulse control due to their ability to cause harm, whether intentional or unintentional, as their size directly impacts their strength (can you imagine trying to stop a 180-pound tank with a fairly low center of gravity barreling towards something??? Good luck 😳). But perhaps the biggest challenge of having a large dog is a combination of common medical issues such as hip dysplasia and arthritis...and a shorter life expectancy. 💔 Sidebar, don’t worry, Benny’s happy and healthy. ☺️ None of this information is an attempt to deter anyone from adopting a large dog; this is only meant to serve as a reminder that we should all be aware of the pros and cons to adopting any animal and that we should choose an animal that fits our home and lifestyle. Many people choose companion animals with very little knowledge about the animals they’re bringing home and far too often, they get in over their heads and the animals are the ones who pay the price. 😔 Please do your research and educate yourself about the animals that you want to share your life with BEFORE YOU BRING THEM HOME. 🙏 💚

Let’s talk for a sec. 😊

Muzzles, like many other tools when NOT used as punishment, can be incredibly helpful in keeping dogs and people safe and comfortable even in more exciting or stressful environments. Beautiful Amor (the pup on leash with Caleb) is learning that new dogs are friends, not something she needs to protect herself from. Utilizing a muzzle has allowed us to expose her to dogs of all kinds knowing that everyone would be safe even if she made a mistake. ☺️

Pairing muzzles with things the individual dog finds rewarding, such as treats, praise, and/or walks, helps to make them comfortable wearing it way before putting them in any kind of new or stressful situations (such as walking around 15+ other doggos like Amor’s doing 😎) so that the muzzle doesn’t add any extra stress or negative feelings for the pup. 🙃

Muzzle training is even great for dogs who you might not think will ever need it because you never know when it could come in handy. For example, a painful injury that results in a scary vet visit can be made that much scarier if a muzzle is needed and the dog has never even seen one or if a local disaster happens and dogs need to be muzzled in order to be allowed in various shelter-type environments with their families. ❤️

Muzzles and dogs wearing them often get a bad rap which makes some hesitant to use them on their own dogs when it would be really helpful and some sadly even demonize the dogs whether the dogs did something wrong or not. ☹️ So if you use a muzzle or see a dog in a muzzle, please keep in mind that there could be a thousand reasons why a dog wears one and there’s NOTHING wrong with appropriately using tools to help keep dogs safe. 🐶

Did you know that, although we LOVE having so many adorable pictures and videos of our packs, the main reason we do them is so the doggos get practice holding their place and staying focused with or without distractions around? 🐶 It’s a great mental exercise for them and even helps to build their confidence and trust in us, especially when they’re posed in less-than-natural positions or on various objects. 🤩
