Riverside County Department of Animal Services (RCDAS) is set to join more than 380 shelters nationwide participating in the “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” shelter pet adoption promotion, in partnership with BISSELL Pet Foundation Foundation.

All pet adoptions are FREE on Saturday, December 16 at the following shelter locations:

-Coachella Valley Animal Campus, located at 72-050 Pet Land Place in Thousand Palms. (Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

-San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, located at 581 S. Grand Ave., in San Jacinto. (Hours: Noon to 4 p.m.)

-Western Riverside County Shelter, located at 6851 Van Buren Blvd. in Jurupa Valley. (Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Visitors to the main Western Riverside County Shelter in Jurupa Valley will enjoy holiday festivities to include crafts for the kids, photos with Santa and more.

During the winter months, cats will often seek out any warm space they can find. Unfortunately, common cozy places include underneath a car and a warm car engine which puts their lives at risk. Here’s a few actions you can take to avoid these types of catastrophes:

🐱 Keep your cat safe and warm inside
💭 Check on your cat before leaving the house or before leaving for a trip
🚗 Make loud warning sounds before starting your car
📢 Give cats time to escape your car after you’ve made the loud noises
🛌 Provide a safer, alternative cozy spot for cats by setting up a cat bed or box with a blanket
