German Shepherd Dogs are incredibly smart!
If you’re a German Shepherd owner, you have a strong suspicion your dog might actually be smarter than you are. After all, what can’t your dog do? These dogs are known for their intelligence and many can learn a new behavior in only a few repetitions. In addition, they have a legendary desire to cooperate and work with us, a trait many see as a wish to please their humans. No wonder this breed excels at so many activities and is a top Obedience competitor. Because German Shepherds are one of the brightest breeds, be sure to be consistent, use positive reinforcement-based methods, provide plenty of mentally stimulating toys, and play brain-challenging games.

PLEASE SHARE!

There is a lot of SCAM activity in dog business and our images are being used once again. Here are some red flags to look for:
_____
1. Image of my daughter holding one of my puppies was posted in a PRIVATE GROUP. Although content was available to 34K group members, it is NOT found by any image search engine and is not available to public/ those not in the group
2. Image was shared by a "happy owner" that was giving a recommendation of a "reputable breeder". The group was FULL of similar posts from different group members all recommending to purchase a puppy from this ONE BREEDER! That fake breeder had more reviews and recommendations in that group than we have on google in over 12 years of business! All reviews were positive and all puppy owners were happy!
3. This "breeder" was also the group ADMIN - they had control to what is posted, commented and what gets approved! While there were random posts from group members asking about names, feed, leashes and other common topics for a discussion between dog owners, all puppy buying posts were leading to the "admin breeder". (I am sure anyone questioning this or pointing on red flags would immediately get banned from that group)
4. This breeder was stealing images from social media (FB and Instagram) and claiming that those are their dogs and puppies!
____________
Their profile was created as BUSINESS! This is a tricky part - while you think you are contacting a PERSON, you are actually messaging with a business profile! There can be several admins and they can be anywhere in the world! Business profile has no friends and tags are easily removed! No links to external sources on social media (always check your sellers on social media to ensure they are REAL people)
When asked about puppies, of course they had puppies available and and of course those puppies would be turning 7 weeks "this weekend/next week". I wanted a female and of course they just had TWO for me to choose from - one all black and one red and black (just in case either one was my preference LOL)! I am 100% sure if I wanted a solid white - they would have one just like that! Forget about color genetics rules - fake breeders can create puppies of all colors in one litter!
When asked about date of birth and parents - was provided with stolen images of random (but very beautiful) dogs from Instagram - both were super easy to find using reverse image search! No actual names, links to pedigree, dates of birth, titles, health screenings, no names of a veterinarian. No information on litter - when was born, how many males, females. No images of litter growing - from birth to 6 weeks - just what they look like NOW. No information on any type of registration!
When asked about their location and visit, they asked me about MY LOCATION and when I responded it is "Madison, WI" they magically were located about an hour from me!
Of course I had to reserve a puppy immediately, as they had other families contacting them and to ensure the puppy goes to me, I had to place a deposit! No contract, no legal binding, just money transfer! The puppy was only $850!!! What a deal! And a deposit was just $400 - a small fraction of what every other "greedy breeder" charges!

Have to add: they did ask me questions on what I do for a living, where I live, if I have pets, kids or allergies. They never cared to check my answers and do their own background check on me. I purposely lied in my answers - simple glimpse at my FB page (I messaged from personal page) would tell a different story, but they never cared to do that! They also would have seen images of my children holding my puppies on my personal page - the very same images they use to make sales! But why waste time and check?

______________________
I reported my copyrighted images and they were removed by META. I later found dozens of public posts from users in other groups and personal pages sharing stories of loosing money to similar "breeders". Please use this post as a caution. If something looks too good to be true - it is NOT! Breeders don't always have puppies available. Their puppies are not always the gender, color or age you want. Their pricing isn't always affordable. Breeders don't always live close by. And most importantly - ask for more information! Veterinarian reference, litter records, parents' names and pedigree and so much more!

German Shepherds will explore everything with their noses
You’ll find evidence of their very thorough sniffing everywhere – walls, doors, windows, and more. All dogs have a better sense of smell than humans – 10,000 to 100,000 times better in fact thanks to having millions more scent receptors. But compared to other breeds, the GSD ranks near the top in scenting ability. It’s no wonder they make such great police and detection dogs. Among many other jobs, GSDs are known for their bomb and drug sniffing work, tracking, and search and rescue.

𝙿𝙴𝚃 𝙽𝚄𝚃𝚁𝙸𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽 𝚆𝙴𝙳𝙽𝙴𝚂𝙳𝙰𝚈
𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐒 -Our dogs LOVE carrots. Carrots are safe for dogs, and also serve as a healthy, low-calorie snack for your pup. We have also noticed our dogs' coats turning much brighter red after they regularly have carrots in their diet!
Benefits of Carrots for Dogs
Carrots offer dog owners an affordable and nutritious snack for their pets. In addition, this vegetable is perfect for rewarding good behavior, without the calorie count associated with biscuits and other treats. Some vets even recommend cold or frozen carrots for teething puppies, as a way to relieve teething discomfort. Large frozen carrots make cheap and edible chew toys. Furthermore, chewing on carrots can also help improve your dog’s dental health. More importantly, carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, potassium, and fiber, among other vitamins.

Today is National Bubble Bath Day 🫧
Is it no wonder we celebrate it annually on January 8th - on a cold winter’s day, when relaxing in a nice warm/hot bubble bath sounds perfect! 🛁🛁🛁

We often emphasize that owners should NOT be washing their GSD very often, but if you were to wash them, please consider making your own, all-natural bubble bath using:
1 cup clear, unscented Castille Soap
2/3 cup liquid glycerin or fractionated coconut oil.
1/4 cup water.
It is THAT easy!

IT IS NATIONAL CUDDLE UP DAY!
Each year on January 6th, National Cuddle Up Day encourages us to snuggle up with someone for the health benefits and more!

January typically has some of the coldest days of the year, so what better way to stay warm and reap the health benefits of cuddling on National Cuddle Up Day? Whether it's a three-dog night (a night so cold it takes three dogs to cuddle up with to stay warm) or only slightly chilly, there are multiple benefits to cuddling with a human or canine, or other pet.
Cuddling releases oxytocin. This hormone alone has tremendous health benefits. Besides giving us warm and fuzzy feelings, oxytocin reduces pain. So when the cold has made those muscles and joints ache, cuddling can help reduce those aches and pains.
Oxytocin also helps reduce heart disease, lowers blood pressure, stress, and anxiety. Of course, insurance carriers would probably cover cuddling if it weren't free since it's such a huge health benefit!

A few weeks ago Veronika and the kids went to the patch and loaded truck with awesome, non-GMO pumpkins to be processed at home. Each pumpkin was cut in two, seeds removed and the halves were baked. Then, soft pumpkin flesh was scooped out into a food processor, pureed, transferred into gallon-sized Ziploc bags and frozen.
We made several dozens of bags this year and they will become quite handy once puppies will be transitioned onto solid foods.

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑷𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒌𝒊𝒏? Natural pumpkin is a great source of fiber and helps with digestive regularity. If your dog is experiencing constipation or diarrhea, mix a tablespoon of pumpkin into their normal food. Not only will they love the taste of pumpkin but it may also ease stomach issues. This is especially important during weaning process.
We truly enjoy knowing where all our food comes from and making as much as we can. If you do not have a source of local pumpkins, you can always purchase pumpkin puree from a store - look for just plain pumpkin, NOT the pumpkin pie filling.

Below are 13 𝑩𝑬𝑵𝑬𝑭𝑰𝑻𝑺 𝑶𝑭 𝑷𝑼𝑴𝑷𝑲𝑰𝑵 𝑭𝑶𝑹 𝑫𝑶𝑮𝑺 𝑨𝑵𝑫 𝑪𝑨𝑻𝑺, an article published on Morris Animal Inn's website (source at the end)

"Not only is pumpkin good for you, but the benefits of pumpkin for dogs and cats make the season’s signature squash a yummy year-round treat.

1. Did you know that grinding pumpkin seeds into your pet’s food is a great way to make sure they’re getting enough protein, carbohydrates and fiber? Roast the seeds and then grind them up, but do not add salt.

2. Additionally, one of the benefits of pumpkin seeds is that they contain cucurbitin, an amino acid that acts as a natural de-worming agent by paralyzing tapeworms and other intestinal parasites.

3. The soluble fiber in pumpkin flesh slows digestion and can help manage diarrhea by absorbing water.

4. Pumpkin also helps with constipation due to its high fiber and water content.

5. Pumpkin is great for “bulking up” your animal’s food. The extra fiber will also help a dog or cat feel full, even if they’re eating fewer calories overall. For this reason, pumpkin can aid in a pet’s weight loss program as well. Try substituting a tablespoon of canned pumpkin for a ¼ cup of food.

6. Since pumpkin slows digestion, your pet will feel fuller for longer.

7. Pumpkin flesh contains vitamin A, which is important for vision health.

8. The flesh also contains vitamin C, which boosts the immune system.

9. Dogs with joint problems need more vitamin C than they produce naturally, and pumpkin is a good source.

10. Pumpkin slows the aging process with its bountiful antioxidant beta-carotene.

11. The zinc in pumpkin will help improve skin and coat.

12. Oils found in pumpkin seeds and flesh are believed to support urinary health. Dogs with urinary incontinence, in particular, may benefit from a little pumpkin in their diet.

13. The fiber in pumpkin can help move furballs along through your cat’s digestive tract and into the litter box, rather than hacked up onto the carpet. Regularly including about a teaspoon a day of pumpkin in your cat’s diet will also help prevent the formation of new furballs.

The best way to use pumpkin is plain pumpkin. You don’t want the “ready for a pie” version that has added fats and spices. Many pets like plain pumpkin, so you can just add it to their regular pet food. Talk to your veterinarian about how much pumpkin to safely give your pet since it will vary depending on your pet’s size and current diet."
