Immunization and Wellness Care – The time and effort invested in wellness plans has rewards for both pets and owners. After completing a comprehensive physical examination, your veterinarian will evaluate your pet's age, breed, and lifestyle to determine the risk of potential disease. After discussing your pet's needs, we will design a health care and vaccination plan that is best for your pet. Our wellness plans are designed specifically for your pet and include: comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.
Puppy and Kitten Packages – Prevention is the key to a long healthy life for your puppy or kitten. To give them a good start in life puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations, wellness exams, tests and dewormings. Our Puppy and Kitten Wellness Plans provide everything your new family member needs to get a healthy start in life.
Senior Care – Breed, genetics, metabolism, veterinary care, nutrition, and your pet's lifestyle all influence the aging process. Although there is no set age when your pet officially becomes senior, pets age much faster than people and by age seven many are entering their senior years. Senior cats and dogs require special veterinary care because they can develop serious medical conditions that come on gradually and are difficult for owners to detect. Our Senior Wellness Program incorporates diagnostic testing to screen for common geriatric disorders along with semi annual wellness exams to keep your senior pet feeling their best as an active member of your family for as long as possible.
Surgery –If your pet requires surgery our veterinary health care team will make sure that you understand all aspects of the procedure and review the available options. After a thorough pre-anesthetic evaluation, and pre-anesthetic blood screening, an individualized anesthetic plan will be formulated for your pet. Our surgery and procedure tables are equipped with heated pads to aid in your pet's safety and comfort. To help ensure a safe surgical environment we make use of advanced anesthesia monitoring equipment which allows us to constantly evaluate your pet's blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature and oxygenation throughout surgical and dental procedures. Our veterinary health care team will take special care of your surgical patient.
Dental Care – Periodontal disease is the number one health problem diagnosed in eight out of ten cats and dogs over the age of four. Dental disease puts tremendous demands on your pet's organs, and can weaken the liver, kidney, and heart. Regular professional cleaning is important to maintain your pet's overall health. We use modern, safe, ultrasonic scaling to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians then polish the teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments are applied to help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity. Preventative dental care can help to add years to your pet’s life.
Radiology – Our on-site x-ray equipment provides quality radiographs – or X-rays – to aid in the diagnosis of many disorders. Radiographs help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. Ultrasound is a non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology that uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Ultrasound imaging can also be used for prenatal exams.
Birds and Reptiles – Providing proper medical care for birds and reptiles requires specialized training and skills. We have Dr. Betty Lawson and veterinary team members who possess experience in the care and treatment of these special pets. Dr. Betty Lawson can advise you as to the dietary, maintenance, hygiene and medical needs of your avian or reptilian friend.
Microchipping – Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery of your lost pet.
Rabbits – Providing proper medical care for rabbits and small mammals requires specialized training and skills. We have Dr. Betty Lawson who possesses experience in the care and treatment of rabbits and small mammals. Laboratory – We utilize a state of the art, full service, outside diagnostic laboratory to obtain comprehensive, accurate laboratory data. In addition, our well equipped in-house laboratory gives us rapid point of care capabilities when we are treating sick or injured pets. This also allows us to properly evaluate surgical cases prior to anesthesia.
Laser – We offer Laser surgery at the Merced Veterinary Clinic. Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, such as cyst, tumor, and wart removal. Lasers can even be used in declawing. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection, result in less post-operative discomfort, and decrease your pet's recovery time
