Founded in 1962, the Applegate Park Zoo is a home for many local species as well as animals from far away.

We strive to give each animal in our zoo the best care possible. Most of our animals are rescued.This page is updated by the zookeepers at the zoo.

Oh by gosh, by golly, it's time for Chistmas lights and jolly (good times at the zoo)!
Please join us this weekend for Lights Before Christmas 5:30pm to 7:30pm!

With the upcoming storm, Saturdays event may be cancelled. We will let people know as soon as possible if the event is cancelled.

The storm should not affect the event on Friday and Sunday and we look forward to seeing you and your family! 🎄🎁

The holidays are approaching and that means Lights Before Christmas is too!

Join us Friday December 13th, Saturday December 14th, or Sunday December 15th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm for some holiday cheer!

This Sunday we will open at 12pm to allow time for scheduled maintenance. We hope to see you and your family in the afternoon after we've tidied up!

Interested in animals? Come volunteer at the zoo! Our next orientation is this thursday, September 12th.

We hold orientations on the second thursday of each month at 3:30pm. Must be at least 16 years or older to volunteer. We hope to see you there!

This weekend, due to the high temperatures the zoo will be open for modified hours as follows:
Thursday & Friday - Closed
Saturday & Sunday - 10am to 2pm

We will have sprinklers and misters on around the zoo to help guests cool off while seeing the animals. Children are encouraged to wear swimsuits and bring towels if they are planning to really cool off.

The Zoo will be closed this Thursday for the 4th of July holiday and also closed for the rest of the weekend due to the extreme heat.

We hope you are able to stay out of the heat and can visit once temperatures are lower!

Starting this weekend, Saturday June 29th and Sunday June 30th, you can come and see some beautiful butterflies!

Entry to the butterfly house is $1 per person and can be bought with your entry ticket in the giftshop.

Fly on by the zoo this weekend to meet some of our new six-legged friends! 🐝🦋

We will be opening our new butterfly house to guests and revealing the observational beehive so kindly loaned to us by the Lander Veterinary Clinic of Turlock.

Butterfly house entry is $1.00 person and can be paid for in the giftshop.

Shout out to Keeper Hannah! For almost two years now, Hannah has dedicated countless hours to caring for the animals that call the Merced Applegate Zoo home. Her favorite, Wizzer the Gray Fox, especially loves to see her each day! She is always willing to come in and help without hesitation, she even went with the animals to the Monterey zoo when we were evacuated for the floods of 2023. Not only can the animals count on her, her fellow coworkers know they can as well. Hannah is always there for her friends and for that, we are all extremely grateful. The zoo is a better place because of you, Hannah!

Say hello to our newest resident at the Merced Applegate Zoo: Cece the mourning dove!

She was placed with us due to her lack of fear when it comes to people. It is believed she may have been someones pet because she is so comfortable approaching people.

Cece comes to us all the way from Goleta, a town near Santa Barbara in Southern Califormia.

We hope that you spot her and say hi on your next visit to the zoo!
