Keep these tips in mind for your holiday festivities ❤️🤍💙

Keep the spark in your 4th of July celebrations, but keep them away from pets! The fireworks are beautiful, but pets are often scared by loud noises. Use these great tips from us and ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center to ensure your pets are comfortable throughout the day! Send this to other pet owners to help keep their pets safe. PSA from Cheddar; spikey cats are not your friend!
Porcupines are nocturnal however it is not out of the ordinary to see them out and about during the day eating and foraging for food. They are great climbers and often build nests in trees or hollowed out logs.

Cheddar made case #3 today (during the daylight) of quilled dogs! They are out and about so please take caution in wooded areas, trails and especially at night, consider leash walks just before bed.

If your pet comes in contact with a porcupine it is recommended to get to a veterinarian assp. Try to minimize movement and prevent rubbing or pawing at the quills (which can make them break or migrate deeper into tissue). We don’t recommend trying to remove them yourself as it can be painful. Most quilled pets require sedation for quill removal with more severe cases requiring anesthesia.

Survivor Sunday post! Meet Winston, a 2yr old French bulldog. He came to us in crisis last week - exhibiting symptoms of heat stroke. We are happy to report, after the hard work from both teams at MVER and VECC (ICU team/critical care) he is well on his way to recovery!!! Heat stroke symptoms, if not caught early or left untreated, can be fatal.

We are so thankful to Winson’s family for their diligence and fast action in recognizing these symptoms and rushing him right into MVER.

Bracheacephalic breeds, like our handsome boy Winston, are specially predisposed to this condition.

While you are out enjoying our beautiful New England summer weather, please keep in mind your furry friends and the tips we have listed below.

This cute fluffy fella was the bestest boy during his ER visit today! Chauncey is a 4yr Golden-Doodle that came in with an upset tummy.

His visit was a short one (good news!) and is home resting and soaking up all the TLC. We hope he bounces back to being his doodley self in no time!!

Sunday-Funday patient highlight! Something to make you smile on this rainy☔️ day!

This cute fella’s name is Jax. He came to us on Thursday for irritated, itchy skin and was diagnosed with a hot spot. He received topical as well as oral medication to clear up the inflammation & infection. Despite not feeling his best, he was an absolute love and star patient, giving lots of kisses during his treatment! His owner has reported that he is recovering well and feels so much better!!!

Yay Jax! 💙 Always happy to hear how our patients are doing after their visit with us in the ER!

❄️ Tuckerman knows how to get some attention on a cold snowy day - eat part of Dad's hat when he comes in from shoveling!

Thankfully it was easily retrieved and he's headed home. Hopefully to enjoy the snow and avoid more mischief! ❄️

How about a photo dump to get your mind off our impending storm!?!!

We had the cutest Mini Australian Shepherd come in for an exam today, Atlas. He had an upset tummy and rightfully so, vomiting and diarrhea is no fun! He received supportive care and is now home resting. No doubt soaking up all the TLC from his mom 🩵

Beulah, a 4 yr old Bloodhound came to us in active labor. She is the sweetest new mom - so attentive to her puppies and her surroundings. Great news is that her last puppy birthed naturally and we avoided a c-section! Mom and puppies are making their way home now before the storm hits! 🩷

Coffee really is the bestest boy (it even says so in his medical chart)!!!
He was happy to sit like a gentleman and patiently wait for a quick ‘click’ to be rewarded with cookies!!!

Coffee came in with a lip injury. Luckily enough, no suturing needed! Rest, antibiotic and TLC are his doctors orders!

The miracle of life!!!! What a beautiful experience to be part of! Don’t get us wrong, C-sections are high intensity, all hands on deck type of a situation! Lots going on between mom, anesthesia, birthing puppies plus recovery and aftercare for all!
We are happy to report that mom (Butter) and babies (1 girl and 2 boys) are now happily recovering at home. What an exhausting day for mom (and her family)! We wish them well and send our love ❤️

TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY! We have been working hard to repurpose space around MVER and would like to share with you, our most recent accomplishment.

We took our front office and turned it into a comfort room, thus giving us a 4th room for patient care.

End of life care, while it pulls on all our heartstrings, is a privilege in veterinary medicine. While we are not able to offer in-home services, we can offer the next best thing. A room that that is cozy and private, providing a similar environment as close to ‘home’ as we can get.

We still have a few finishing touches to complete our vision but couldn’t wait any longer to share this new space with our community 💙

Poor Loomis! All he wanted were some leftover ramen noodles 🍜 and instead, landed himself in the ER with a paw pad injury! He had a surgical repair on his toe bean and recovered like a champ. Bandaged up and e-collar on (the indecency) we are happy to report he is recovering at home with lots of love and TLC!

Will he ever go after noodles again? We cant say but you know those cute trouble makers….. always after something!

I get it….. sometimes you just aren’t feeling photogenic when your owner decides to bring you into the ER. But Teddy, how could we NOT!? I’m not going to disclose the number of tries (and staff members) it took to get Teddy to look at us! lol

We are happy to report that with rest, medicine and TLC Teddy will be back to his playful self in no time!

What’s a Sunday in the ER without a Pugalicious photo shoot!! Maggie’s owner shared a photo of her in the exam room, patiently waiting for one of us to come back in! To say Maggie loved her visit at MVER (and the staff) is an understatement!
