Want an easy, delicious homemade treat for your beloved dogs?

This treat calls for only TWO ingredients!

You'll need 2 cups of whole wheat flour and 8 ounces of sweet potato puree. Just make sure the puree is pure and not full of additives!

INSTRUCTIONS:

~ Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
~ Line your baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.
~ In a large bowl, whisk the flour and sweet potato until blended. If the mixture becomes too thick you can add up to a tablespoon of water.
~ When the dough is ready, roll it on a clean, floured surface. You'll want the dough to be 1/2'' thick.
~ Use your favorite cook cutter!
~ Space the cookies out evenly on the prepared sheet.
~ Bake until golden brown, approximately 20-25 minutes.

TIPS:

~ Remember, every dog can be affected differently with foods. Start off with a small amount to see how your dog's belly handles the treat.
~ Always feed in moderation.
~ The sweet potato puree can be substituted with pure pumpkin puree.

'Bone' Appetit!

We all love our pets and want to keep them safe, and door safety is a big consideration for that! Especially during Halloween!

With the door opening and closing to trick-or-treaters you want to make sure your pets don't dash out! For the night, if possible make a barrier around your front door that you can easily get over but your pet can't. Whether you already have pet gates in the home or need to get creative, this will be one of the best ways to keep them inside!

You can also secure your pets inside another room of the house. This will not only keep them safe inside but may help with any anxiety they can get from the excitement and noise of the night. Playing music or having a tv on in the room with them would be an extra comfort for them.

Should the worst happen and your pet escapes the home, be proactive in getting them home by ensuring their collars with ID tags are on and any microchip information is up to date. It's also not a bad idea to get them microchipped if they aren't already!

We hope everyone has a safe, fun and happy Halloween this year!

The best part of Halloween is all the yummy treats! Candy, pumpkin pie, Candied Apples - anything your heart desires for the spooky season!

We all know these foods are not safe for our beloved dogs, but that doesn't mean they can't have their own goodies!

Below is a super simple, 3 ingredient recipe for delicious doggie treats!

INGREDIENTS:

~ 1 cup of fresh, cooked pumpkin OR unsweetened canned pumpkin (make sure it is pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling)
~ 2 cups whole wheat flour
~ 1 egg

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
2. Beat the egg and mix it with the pumpkin.
3. Gradually stir in the flour.
4. Once everything is mixed well, transfer it to a nonstick surface.
5. Wash your hands and the kneed to ensure everything is mixed well.
6. Use a rolling pin and make the dough 1/2" thick. **Sprinkle a little bit of flour on the surface and rolling pin to make this part easier!
7. Move the dough onto a cutting board and cut the dough into even squares (3/4" for small dogs or 1" for medium to large dogs). **A pizza cutter will make this part easier!
8. Bake from approximately 30 minutes, until golden brown and crunchy!

**If you have fun shaped cookie cutters feel free to use those but remember this may affect baking time! Be sure to keep an eye on the treats so they don't burn.

**Keep treats stored in an airtight container. They will last for about a week. To extend their life by a little more, store them in the fridge. If you want to make extra treats you can store them in the freezer for 6 months, just be sure to thaw before feeding!

The spooky season is upon us!

Halloween can be an exciting time for everyone but remember to always be mindful of your pet's safety! One of the most fun parts about this holiday is the costumes!

Dressing up your pet with the rest of the family can be entertaining but there are some things to think about in regards to safety!

First and foremost, dressing up your pet should not cause any stress to them. If your pet doesn't like it, just don't do it!

If your pet is okay with wearing clothes, be mindful of the costume you choose.

Do not get your pet a costume that has any dangling pieces (bells, lights, balls, etc). These items can come off and be swallowed by your pet.

Make sure the costume isn't too tight. Pay extra attention to the neck area but constricting your pet's legs and torso can be troublesome too! Make sure your pets costume is loose and comfortable.

Pets can have allergic reactions to clothing just like us! If your pet gets itchy after they don their costume, the fabric maybe irritating their skin. If this happens it's better to be safe than sorry, remove the costume to avoid a rash!

It's also important to always supervise your pets when they are in costume to avoid any accidents!

Stay tuned for more Halloween tips & tricks!

We hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July!

Whether you're celebrating with family, friend or pets, enjoy your barbeque and fireworks!

06/30/2023

The 4th of July is just around the corner and NOW is the time to plan for your pet's safety and comfort. Don't wait until the last minute to make sure they don't suffer because of this holiday.

The 4th of July is an important holiday for us and should be celebrated! However the staple of our celebrations, fireworks, are incredibly scary to most of our pets.

Some animal shelters see as much as a 30-60% increase in the number of lost dogs following the 4th of July? July 5th is the busiest time of year for them, as stray intakes can reach the hundreds!

Here are some tips to keep your pets safe during this time of year:

1. Ensure the home is secured: have all doors and windows closed and locked with window coverings closed.

2. If your dog is crate trained, keep them in their crate with a blanket covering it. If they aren't, secure them in a room in the home (one without windows if possible).

3. Have a radio or TV turned on with calming music. Check out Youtube for "dog calming music" or DogTv!

4. Make sure your pet is wearing their collar with accurate ID tags. If your pet is microchipped make sure the information is all up to date. If your pet is not microchipped, consider getting it done. The first things a shelter will do when they get an intake is check for a chip. Citizens can also bring an animal to any vet or most pet businesses and get an animal scanned.

5. Stay home if you can! You will bring the most comfort to your pet during a scary time.

6. Expose them to fireworks at a young age. You can safely desensitize your pets to the sound of fireworks with music! It's best to start when they are babies but also possible for older dogs. You an buy CDs that pair calming music with what could be "scary sounds" (fireworks, sirens, etc) and play them for your pet.

We wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July!
