Veterinarians are historically the gate keepers of food safety. Over the years that vocation has been replaced with pet keepers and animal health husbandry. In the military the veterinary corps job is to enter a country and find safe food sources for troops before they enter the area (yes, the veterinarians are the first people in the line of duty for war). Farmers have traditionally been the stew
ards of the land, raising crops and keeping animals. Over time this has evolved to focus on raising food, but not taking care of the land and has also separated the animals from the land. We see chickens who never see sunlight and cattle that hardly touch grass. Know Your Food re-establishes this historical function and takes it a step further. In this model we are veterinarians who produce the food in the safest manner possible, as stewards of the land. We link the consumer to the food and the land by making them the owner of the process and the end product. Know Your Food is the first of its kind. It is set to change the way communities and urban dwellers view the food they consume. It is an educational process as much as it is a role model for franchises to spring up across the nation. Through Know Your Food we offer courses and ownership in the energy that makes us healthy, vibrant servants of the planet on which we live.
