Join us on Sunday October 20 as visitors from Pennsylvania and Ohio explore the fall beauty of Butler Township's Preston Park. Sponsored by the Friends of Preston Park Foundation, the 5k/10k/15k Challenge benefits Preston Park.

The 5k runners (and walkers) will start at 9 at the flagpole. They sprint past the house then follow the trails and markings down the hill, past the pond, across the bridge, to the meadow, through the woods, down Frith Hook, up Carnegie Trail, through the dog trail and parking lot, and then do it again. The 5k ends at the Arboretum.

The 10k runners (and walkers) will start at 10 at the Arboretum. They will be traveling parts of the park that are off the "beaten path." They sprint out the Arboretum then follow the trails and markings down the hill, past the pond, across the bridge, to the meadow, through the woods, down Frith Hook, and then turn onto Ridge Run. They follow Ridge Run, Meadow Run, and Deer Run to the top of the ski slope. The return trip follows Grinny Grove to Carnegie through the dog trail and parking lot, and then do it again. The 10k ends at the Arboretum.

It's not too late to register at [email protected]. Or volunteer to be a landmark, or simply show up and enjoy the fall beauty of Preston Park.

Registration deadline is October 4th to receive a race tee shirt.

Here's one from the history books. This is Twp Commissioner Sam Zurzolo working on the flag pole he built for the park. Sam did all the work himself laboring away alone in the heat. It took his hard work and skills over a period of several weeks to complete the work. Three Cheers for Sam!

Butler Twp is Seeking Funds for Preston Park Lake.
Butler Twp is seeking state assistance for a large undertaking at Preston Park. At their meeting on Monday, April 1, 2024, the commissioners approved a resolution to make a Planning Assistance grant request of nearly $73,000 through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The grant from the Commonwealth Finance Authority requires a 15% local match. A recent data collection study determined that approximately four feet of silt have accumulated in the three acre Preston Park pond. This leaves anywhere from only two to four feet of water. This grant will help determine how much it would cost to dredge the lake and its two tributaries as well as make repairs to the dam. The township expects to hear if the grant will be awarded sometime late summer or early fall.
