Keep Your Pets Cozy and Safe This Idaho Winter!

Idaho winters are beautiful, but can also be tough on our furry friends. As temperatures drop and the snow falls, it's important to make sure your pets are warm, comfortable, and safe. Here are some tips to help your pets thrive during the cold months:

Protect Those Paws: Ice, snow, and road salt can be rough on your pet’s paw pads. Try using pet-safe booties to protect their feet or apply a paw balm to prevent cracking and irritation. After outdoor adventures, wipe their paws to remove salt or other chemicals.

Bundle Up: Not all pets have a natural fur coat for the cold! If your dog shivers outside, consider getting them a cozy jacket or sweater to keep them warm. Short-haired breeds and senior pets will appreciate the extra layer.

Limit Outdoor Time: While walks and playtime are essential, keep outdoor sessions shorter when the temperatures are freezing. Hypothermia and frostbite can happen quickly, especially to smaller or short-haired pets.

Watch for Winter Hazards: Snow can hide dangers like sharp objects or ice patches. Keep an eye on your pet and avoid areas treated with de-icers that aren’t pet-safe.

Cozy Indoors: Create a warm, comfy space indoors for your pets. Elevate their bedding off cold floors, and make sure they have a blanket or two to snuggle into.

Stay Active Indoors: When it’s too cold to venture outside, engage your pet with indoor activities. Puzzle toys, training exercises, or even a game of hide-and-seek can help burn off energy.

We want to hear from you! What are your favorite ways to keep your pets warm and happy during Idaho winters? Share your tips in the comments below – let’s help our pet community stay cozy together!

Explore Boise’s Winter Walking with Your Pet!

Winter doesn’t mean you and your pup have to stay indoors! Boise is home to various fantastic parks and trails perfect for cold-weather adventures. Whether you’re looking for off-leash fun or serene, leashed strolls, here are some top spots to visit:

Ann Morrison Park. Dog Island. A haven for dogs, this park offers an active play space, and a "shy dog" area. From now through February, the park becomes off-leash for well-trained dogs, making it a winter favorite.

Kathryn Albertson Park. For a peaceful on-leash experience, head across the street from Ann Morrison Park to this beautifully maintained retreat. With its scenic ponds and abundant wildlife, it’s a treat for both you and your pup.

Morris Hill Dog Park. This small but lively off-leash park has separate areas for small and large dogs, with agility toys, fire hydrants, and a doggie drinking fountain.

Boise River Greenbelt. Bundle up and explore the path along the Boise River. The Greenbelt connects numerous parks and offers a refreshing way to enjoy the crisp winter air with your leashed companion.

Bowler Park. Tucked in Southeast Boise, this park features an enclosed area and a separate shy dog space. The covered seating area is ideal for relaxing while your dog enjoys off-leash fun.

Winter Tips: Always bring water, leash your dog unless it’s an off-leash area, and pack waste bags to keep our parks clean. With a little preparation, winter outings can be a joyous adventure for you and your furry friend!

Share your favorite spots in the comments, and let’s celebrate our pet-friendly city together!

We are seeking donations of blankets for our clinics once again. These blankets are utilized for pre- and post-operative patients, as well as for our boarding animals to provide a comfortable resting surface. We require blankets of various sizes to accommodate our diverse patient population, ranging from small animals weighing around 4 pounds to larger ones weighing over 135 pounds.

And thank you as always for all donations. ❤️❤️

Did you know that one of our technicians Alex does some outreach spay and neuter clinics. She is going again in December and they are in need of some leashes and collars.

This is her post below:
I am ISO collars and leashes to bring with me to Nicaragua this December for a spay/neuter/wellness clinic via Aprovet Nicaragua. We not only need them for post-op patients (who come into the clinic with very creative leashes and collars), but for our outreach day where we bring the clinic to families that can't make it to the clinic days.

If you have some laying around collecting dust, please consider donating them! I am happy to pick them up or I can arrange for them to be dropped off (OR if you'd rather ship, I can get you their US address), whichever is most convenient.

Thank you for your consideration!

Please give us a call or text at if you have any donations 208-855-0400 or send us an email at [email protected]
