Dog Fight Drive

Is a character trait that is primarily genetic. It is sometimes confused with Rank Drive or fight drive. Both of these drives prompt the dog to engage in combat regardless of the opponent {man or animal}. Dog fight tendency focuses on dogs only. It is completely possible to have a dog that is totally safe with its handler or strangers, or even infants, but will attack another dog as if obsessed. Dog fight tendency is exhibited regardless of s*x of other dog. Normally , a male will not attack a female. Dog fight tendency differs from rank or fight drive in another manner. In rank or fight drive encounters, the victorious dog will eventually allow the loser to escape. An encounter that has a victor motivated by dog fight tendency ends up in death of the loser.

Feral Drive

Feral Tendency is a character trait which is totally genetic. In essence, it is a tendency to revert to a feral state. A dog with a high degree of feral tendency may seem to act quite intelligently. It may also seem to learn quickly. Feral tendency is often misunderstood as trainability drive. Trainability drive prompts the dog to remain obedient when pain/stress reaches the critical point. Feral tendency prompts the dog to disobey at that point. When stress is high , the highly feral dog begins to out maneuver the handler or to escape the cause of pain/stress. An example is a dog that attempts to position itself far back from the scenario “Plant” when indicating. It anticipates corrections and the handler is unable to enforce proper behavior because the dog is out of reach. Feral Tendency is undesirable in detection dogs or patrol dogs.

Aggression Drive:

Aggression is a character trait that is psychological, but genetically based. Aggression is the propensity for unwarranted vicious behavior. Aggression is observed most frequently as wide-eyed, wild and frightening behavior. An example is a dog that notices, then, with no provocation, attacks another dog, person, or object. Aggression is undesirable for detection dog or patrol dog.

Sharpness Drive

Sharpness is a character trait which is psychological, but genetically based. It is the tendency to react to stimuli with aggressive behavior. An example is the dog that is startled by its handler’s approach and bites him without warning. This same dog would then recognize its error and become its normal self. This is extreme example, however. Sharpness is based in fear and influenced by defense drive. Sharpness is undesirable for a detection or patrol dog.

Bite Development

I will show a picture of the sleeve I am talking about for deep and full bites, The presentation of this sleeve is very important to achieve your goals.
The canine shall be back tied.
Two leashes for safety.
Remember the canine must be taught to come and get the bite, do not feed the sleeve to the canine. And the bite should look like this for the first time: The Start of Bite Development on a back tie.

The reason a canine is taught to bite, is to stop the criminal from fleeing, controlling the suspect. Safety for the canine officer.

The bite or grip of a canine must be full and deep, and one bite only to prevent further injury. This presentation will attempt to show the training evolution that should take place from a good helper and help to teach decoys to become better helpers.

Development of Bite Work for Police Service Work.

Detection K9 Program and Police Service Dog Program, Trainers Course, Handler Course, Tracking and trailing, Live Find K9’s. Protection dogs, and Handler Courses for protection Dogs. Belgium Malinois, German Shepherd, Doberman, Dutch Shepherd, Giant Schnauzer, Sometime Puppies and young one year old selection tested dogs. Teaching Classes in dog training, and teaching in the Kansas City School System. Keeping me busy and love it.

Accredited through Vom Kaiserhofe Dog Training. Vom Kaiserhofe Training is the only Certification to teach in the State of Kansas that was approved by the board of regent’s education in Topeka Kansas by the State of Kansas and through Dodge City Community College. The grants failed to Dodge City Community College, so we were not able to give students credit hours through this program. So, it has been switched to Vom Kaiserhofe Police Dog Program, With no college credit hours. But the Student still gets Certification that is approved, by the Board of Regents education State of Kansas.
All Certifications are through the Vom Kaiserhofe Dog Training Program.

Defense Drive:
Is the subconscious impulse for the dog to defend itself from real or imagined danger. This drive is sometimes referred to as “Survival Drive”. It is exhibited as “Fight or Flight” Behavior. Frequently when a dog is engaged in Defense drive its hackles will be high and its tail will be placed between its legs. An example is a “fear biter” dog. Defense drive is not desirable for a detection dog.
