The Mission: Saving Lives
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (WTAR) focuses efforts on rescuing high-risk animals from euthanasia, neglect, and abuse. These animals primarily come from Mississippi, where young animals are euthanized by the hundreds each and every day due to overpopulation. Lack of spay-neuter laws and large sections of rural land allow for free-roaming animals to reproduce, leading to a surp

lus of neglected, homeless, and starving puppies and kittens. These animals are then found and brought to local animal shelters, which simply cannot provide the care or homes these pets need in order to survive. Ultimately, they get euthanized for space or for illnesses contracted at the shelter. We rescue these animals by operating a life-saving transport, foster, and adoption program. WTAR finds the pets who need us the most by employing a full-time transport coordinator on the ground in Mississippi (WTAR South), with the goal of working directly with these shelters and communities to be a resource when they cannot accept any more animals or find enough homes. These transports operate weekly, relieving the shelters and communities from overcrowding and needless euthanasia. Redirecting the intake of young, at-risk animals from the shelter to WTAR allows additional time and resources to be spent on the older, less adoptable residents of the shelter that would otherwise be euthanized for space. Rescued animals are then scheduled and placed on emergency transport with WTAR to Northern Virginia. Upon arrival, they undergo an extensive veterinary intake evaluation and then are placed in foster homes until they find their forever homes through private Meet & Greets.

Whew! ALL the new fosters are on their way!!!! Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered to foster these precious babies! Because of you, we were able to transport everyone on our list. And because of all the donations raised, we were able to pull 3 additional adult dogs and get them to a safe indoor foster for the holidays so they’ll be safe and alive for our January transport. What a year. Thank you for all your support and encouragement. We couldn’t do it without you.

•The animals coming on this transport will NOT be available for adoption until next Monday morning when they are listed on our website. You will have to submit a meet and greet request AND adoption application if you are interested in adopting one of these animals. If an animal you see here is not listed on Thursday morning, it means their foster is adopting them and they are not available. •

It is our LAST transport of the year! But we still need a few more fosters to save everyone on our list! We need your help!

Fostering is FREE, foster periods are only 3 weeks long, & WTAR provides you with all food & supplies you need! Foster period starts SUNDAY November 23rd and ends December 14th!

🏡 Seeking Foster Heroes for Sim Sim & Mittens 🐾

We urgently need fosters for two sweet adult cats, Sim Sim 5yo old (WTAR Unbreakable Kimmy) and her daughter Mittens 4 yo old (WTAR Unbelievable), who are being surrendered due to unforeseen family allergies. Their previous family was heartbroken to part with them, and now they need your help to find a safe, loving place to land.

🌟 Meet Sim Sim:
This grey short-haired beauty is a social butterfly who loves lap time, pets, and meeting new people. She’s playful, friendly, and always ready to brighten your day.

🌟 Meet Mittens:
Mittens has a unique grey-black tiger coat with adorable white paws and belly. She’s shy at first and needs quiet spots to relax, but once comfortable, she’ll nudge and rub against you for affection.

💕 These two are opposites in personality but share a deep bond, often found cuddled together. While fostering them as a pair is ideal, we’re open to individual fosters if needed.

📦 What They Need in a Foster Home:
• A calm, indoor environment.
• A little patience to help Mittens feel at ease.
• Love and attention for these low-maintenance companions.

🐾 We’ve exhausted all of our internal leads and are now coming to the public for help. While Sim Sim and Mittens are our top priority, we also have other adult cats in need of fosters. Can you open your heart and home to help save a life?

🌟 Meet “What Are Those!” 🌟

Hi, I’m What Are Those, a 2-month-old shepherd mix and the diva of my litter (it’s true, my foster moms said so)! 💁‍♀️

I’m crate-trained, already sleeping about 4 hours at night, and working super hard on potty training. Guess what? I’ve learned to ring a bell to let my foster moms know when I need to go outside! 🛎️

I’m teething right now (hello, piranha teeth 🦈), but that just means I love playing with toys—and my foster sister! She’s teaching me how to be the best pup ever for my forever home. 🐾

I’m treat-motivated, smart, and full of love. Expect lots of kisses and tail wags because I LOVE attention. 💕

This 3-month-old Great Dane mix is the happiest pup you’ll ever meet. She runs up to everyone with her tail wagging, then sits expectantly—clearly waiting for you to pick her up (how can you resist?).

Catwoman gets along perfectly with her foster mom’s bigger dogs and isn’t afraid of them. She spends her days in a perfect routine of play, nap, repeat—and it’s as adorable as it sounds!

🐾 Meet Twilight 2009 🐾

Twilight is a calm and gentle 4-month-old Heeler mix searching for her forever home. She’s a balanced blend of playful and independent—content to play fetch with her toys or quietly entertain herself for hours.

Twilight has made excellent progress with housetraining and even goes to the door when she needs to go out. She knows “sit” and is learning “down” and “wait.” After warming up to the leash, she now looks forward to her morning walks.

Very social by nature, Twilight enjoys meeting people on her walks and sits politely for greetings. She recently met a 5-year-old child and interacted gently with him, making her a wonderful companion for families with children.

Her unique look—mostly white with polka-dot ears, a few brown spots, and a heart-shaped notch on her black nose—adds to her charm. She loves spending quiet time outdoors, often finding a sunny spot in the yard or watching the world go by from the front door.

Twilight would be a wonderful match for someone looking for a sweet, steady, and well-adjusted Heeler mix to join their home. 🐶

Meet Medley 💔

This sweet 4yr old bloodhound mama was found in desperate need of help—malnourished, pregnant, and barely holding on. After we brought her to safety, she gave birth to a litter of puppies, but sadly, only three survived due to her weakened condition.

Medley’s journey to recovery has been incredibly tough. When she arrived, the WTAR team discovered she’s heartworm positive. During her spay surgery, we also found she has serious dental issues that require a full medical procedure. To make matters worse, Medley suffered facial trauma in the past, which resulted in a broken jaw—leaving her with a permanent, sweetly protruding tongue. Despite everything she’s been through, Medley deserves the chance to live a happy, healthy life, and we’re committed to making that a reality for her.

But we need YOUR help. 🐾

The medical costs are mounting, and we can’t do it without the support of kind-hearted people like you. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly to Medley’s care and help us get her back on her paws.

This sweet girl is looking for a forever family to shower with all the love she has to give! Felicia’s journey from Mississippi to northern Virginia wasn’t easy, but every day she’s coming out of her shell, finding confidence, and showing her true, loving personality.

💕 Felicia is a 2 yo old Weimaraner/German Shorthaired Pointer mix who’s happiest as your little shadow, always ready for snuggles and kisses. She adores her foster siblings, playing outside, belly rubs, and cozy spots like couches and beds (human or dog!).

• Dog-friendly: She loves other dogs and would be thrilled to have doggy siblings.
• Patient & Loving Family: She’s still working on separation anxiety and needs someone who can help her feel secure.

🐾 Meet Linq – The Miracle Bloodhound Mix!

This sweet 3-year-old boy has been through so much, and now he’s ready to find his forever home! 💙 We think Linq might have a bit of Basset Hound in him, which just adds to his charm. When he came to us, he was incredibly skinny and had a diaphragmatic hernia that made it hard for him to breathe. Thanks to surgery, he’s now thriving and full of love!

Over the past few weeks, Linq has blossomed into a playful, affectionate pup. He’s a total cuddle bug who loves toys, gets along great with other dogs, and adores every human he meets. 💖 He deserves the very best home after all he’s overcome!
