Fixing fence in the sheep pen today. Had a pit crew trying to watch as they seemed very disappointed that I was mending their escape hole. It definitely doesn’t look like a gorgeous patch job but the sheep can no longer get out so I call it a great success! Wallace even made friends with Sunkist the barn cat who was also supervising the activity.

Came home to a fun surprise today. The sheep were out and grazing in the corn field and the gate was wide open. I love my sheep though because as soon as they saw the red grain bucket in my hand they had already ran into the pen ready for their dinner. Weaver leading the pack.

Always glad to see happy customers. Loved receiving this video. Sometimes the sheep don’t start friendly but with dedication like this they sure will be friendly soon.

The fun of walking sheep. It is so funny when I have to move my girls because I truly get to the see the differences between some of my older show ewes and my girls who have no idea what a halter is.😂 on the left is Beach who has always had an attitude and on the right is Opal who has been shown the last two years numerous times and is a pro when it comes to a halter.

Out sorting breeding groups this morning in preparation for breeding season. Have decided on the pairings for both the rams Wallace and Lucian. End photos of one of our newest additions who is nicknamed sheep as he’s the black sheep of our herd 😂

The Mid-American Shetland Sheep Show at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival is complete. All the sheep did wonderfully and took home lots of ribbons. I was honored to win Youth Showman and the Jim Scharlau award. Here are the placings from the show:

4th place yearling ram-Wallace
5th place ran lamb-Gabbro
4th pair of ram lambs-Alabastar and Gabbro
2nd place yearling ewe-Missoula
4th place small flock
3rd place best spotted/modified-Wallace
5th place best fleece on hoof-Wallace

We are taking off for the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival! 8 sheep are going down to be shown in numerous classes. This is the farms first year showing at the festival and we are super excited!
Here is the lineup:
Senior ewe: Weaver and Mercedes
Yearling ewe: Missoula and Minnie
Senior ram: Lucian
Yearling Ram: Wallace
Ram lamb: Alabastar and Gabbro

Meet Gabbro! He is a registered morrit ram lamb out of Windland Flats Minnie and LH Lucian. He was born April 13 of this year. He is halter trained and fairly friendly. He has been shown at a few fairs and will be shown at the Wisconsin sheep and wool festival. He is looking for some new pastures to graze in. Picture of mom and dad are at the end

12 sheep came with me to my local county fair and I was pleased with all of them. It was tough as they were being judged on meat qualities so no high places but still ended up with Wallace being in the Best of Show class. Proud of how they all behaved during the show. Now all that’s left is Mid American Shetland Sheep Show in September then all the sheep get some time off.

Took a trip down to Illinois and back up through Monroe to pick up the newest members of my flock. Two gorgeous girls one from Ramsay Farms and the other from OK Acres. Meet Weaver and Missoula! Both girls settled in nicely and are enjoying each other’s company.

Ending placings for the sheep show. So proud of all my sheep! Excited that Alabastar my first registered lamb that I bred won overall best ram at the show. It’s a huge accomplishment for my breeding program and can’t wait to see how it continues.

Fair season began today at the farm. Brought 8 Shetlands to the county fair and am so proud of all of them. Came home with many wins and lots of members of the public loved giving them cuddles.

Went through the UP and visited Linden Lane Farm to pick up our newest edition. Wallace is a yearling ram who I am very excited to use in the coming breeding year. I am also excited to use him in my showing program this summer. He is already halter broke and just needs a little tune up.

Shearing has begun around here! I have 20 sheep to shear this year and have gotten 10 done so far. They all have been very good about standing around as I shear them. I’ve also slowly started halter breaking lambs to prepare for the upcoming show season!

Went out yesterday to tag and vaccinate all the lambs for the year. Pictures were also taken of all the sale lambs (they did not enjoy standing still). Here are a few of my favorites that will definitely be hard to say goodbye to. Thank you to all the help we had to get all 18 lambs and a few ewes complete!
