We would like to thank everyone for working with LCHS to donate aluminum cans in Tomahawk! In August, we received $840 as a result of the can donation in Tomahawk!

Please note, LCHS will not be accepting aluminum cans at our facility. The Hometown Feed Mill & General Store in Tomahawk does have a trailer available for can donation. LCHS will not transport cans so if you decide to donate cans, you must deliver them in Tomahawk. Thank you for your understanding and support!

We would like to thank Jim & Sally, our main can donation volunteers, for all of their efforts with the can bin! Your volunteer time is greatly appreciated!

LCHS frequently receives calls regarding injured birds or wildlife. Although we are eager to help where we can, our facility does not have the permits or the skills to care for these creatures. If you find an orphaned, injured, or abandoned animal that appears to be in need, please stop and contact a wildlife rehabilition facility before intervening. Trained staff at these organizations can advise whether an animal is truly in need and what the next step will be.

For wild birds, please call the Raptor Education Group, Inc. based in Antigo, WI. Again, please contact the facility before handling or moving wild birds. The Raptor Education Group, Inc can be reached at 715-623-4015.

For wildlife, please call Wild Instincts based in Rhinelander, WI. It is recommended to contact the facility before handling or removing wildlife. Wild Instincts can be reached at 715-362-9453. Wild Instincts is available by phone 24 hours a day.
For wildlife, you can also call Northwoods Wildlife Center in Minocqua, WI. It is recommended to contact the facility before handling or removing wildlife.

Northwoods Wildlife Center can be reached at 715-356-7400. You can also you use this link for advice on common wildlife situations:

https://northwoodswildlife.org/wildlife-rescue-rehabilitation/wildlife-emergencies/

We recommend saving these contacts into your phone so you have easy access to the phone numbers in case of an emergency.

We again need to thank Moments Foster Care, Inc. for helping us in this situation with the 63 kitties! This handsome kitty is Big Guy. He was very stressed at the shelter and due to some medical concerns, he went to Moments for some medical checks to make sure he would be ok.

Well, Big Guy had other plans. Instead of staying for an exam and getting an update on his vaccines, he decided he loves the staff at Rescued Pet Kare and wants to stay with them.

Big Guy will be available for adoption through Moments Foster Care, Inc. once he's medically cleared for adoption.

LCHS plans to open to the public again on Thursday, September 12. We still have dozens of additional animals at the shelter so please be patient with our staff. They have worked around the clock to care for the extra animals and we are so grateful for their hard work!

If you are not looking to adopt, we ask that you please be considerate of others that are looking to adopt and allow staff to focus on adoptions, as we have more than 100 animals looking for homes right now.

We do recommend sending an adoption application in advance, same day adoptions are not guaranteed.

Thank you to our incredible community for all of your support! Your time spent volunteering, promoting animals, and providing supplies has truly been heartwarming to see. We are so grateful to everyone for helping during this time!

GUNTHER UPDATE!

Gunther has almost hit 60 pounds and we have had to decrease his food so he doesn’t get chunky now (that’s crazy!!) He still has those eyes that suck you in and his favorite activity now is stealing vegetables straight from the garden 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️, he also got to meet a foster kitten and loved that she had a milk mustache for him to lick off!!

These wild things are looking for an energetic home! Jinni and Bruce are very sweet sibling looking for homes or a home that is ready for some of that kitten energy! We do offer 2 for 1 adoptions for any cats or kittens going into the same home! They are about 6 months old and are fixed and ready to go home! Jinni can be a bit of a bully with other cats but her and Bruce get along great and he doesn't let her get away with any of that sassy cat behavior on his watch! 😉

Please use the phone numbers or links below for more information about the variety of clinics listed. Thank you for pursuing spay/neuter services. If we all work together, we can beat the pet overpopulation crisis and prevent unwarranted euthanasia throughout the nation.

One of the 63 kitties is likely almost 20 years old. He is incredibly friendly and loves everyone he meets.

He has a large tumor and our vet does not believe he has much time left. After everything this sweet guy has been through, we are happy to announce that Moments Foster Care, Inc. has taken him in as a hospice case. They will ensure he receives regular vet care to keep him comfortable and content. Thank you, Moments Foster Care, Inc., for ensuring our sweet boy knows love and safety.

Did you know?

There are so many ways for you to donate to LCHS! We are not funded by any national organization so any donation you make to HSUS, ASPCA, or others do not assist your local shelter.

LCHS is a private organization that gets all of it’s funding from donations that are made right to the shelter. We do fundraisers for the shelter that the public is encouraged to attend and there are many other ways to help out as well!
Here is a list of ways to help out:

*In person donations can be made right at the shelter and gives you the chance to visit with all the wonderful pets we have looking for homes!

*Facebook Fundraisers (we see lots of people who do birthday fundraisers)

*Some employers/companies will match a donation made to a organization

*Individual fundraisers can be done by people who wish to create their own fundraiser for the shelter. LCHS loves to share when someone is doing a fundraiser for us to help promote it!

*Fresh Step Paw Point from Fresh Step Litter can be donated and in the past has helped LCHS to get a pallet of cat litter for free!

*LCHS has donation boxes at local businesses for you to donate with ease!

*Online donations can be made right on the shelter website www.furrypets.com

There are so many awesome ways to donate to the shelter to help us help all of these wonderful animals that come into our care every year. LCHS cares for about 1,000 animals a year! We appreciate all the help and support we can get and have a pretty wonderful support system and are so very grateful! ❤️
