Update: As of December 30th we have had 3 total reported cases.
A note to Superdog parents about Canine Cough:
As of Today, December 17, 2024, we received notification from one of our Superdog Ownerโs that their dog was diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection. With this news our routine cleaning duties were quickly escalated to ensure every precaution is in place. The air in the building has also already been shocked with our Kennelsol APS (Air Purification System). Rest assured we will do everything in our power to ensure our Superdogs are breathing air as clean as we can possibly make it and we are keeping an extra watchful eye on everyone.
We will include some more detailed information below about what to watch for in your dog(s) and our cleaning procedures, but most importantly we ask that if you have noticed any of the following symptoms that you please keep your dog(s) home from daycare or boarding to help prevent the spread of illness:
Coughing
Hacking (like something is stuck in their throat)
Vomiting or Expulsion of white and/or clear foamy fluid
Wheezing
Sneezing or Reverse Sneezing
Nasal Discharge
Loss of Appetite
Lethargy
Our staff is diligently monitoring all dogs in daycare and boarding for any symptoms as well. Any dog showing symptoms will be immediately quarantined and their parents contacted to arrange pick up.
We are also asking that if you have multiple dogs at home, that if one dog has symptoms or is diagnosed with Canine Cough to please keep ALL of the dogs out of daycare, boarding and grooming. Even if the other dogs do not present with symptoms or contract Canine Cough, they could carry and spread it.
Please email us at [email protected] or call (603-424-1515) to inform the front desk if your dog is ill OR if you have questions. You can also take a video and send to as as well. We cannot diagnose canine cough at Superdogs, but we can recognize symptoms and can encourage Owners to take their pup to the Vet. We will be staying in touch with anyone that informs us their dog is sick.
Please help us by keeping an extra close eye on your dogs. If they seem a little โoff,โ maybe skipped their meal or they are laying around a little more than usual, this could be a sign they may have the beginning stages of Canine Cough. Also, please look at your dogโs eyes, clear, normal discharge is fine, if the discharge has any color to it at all; light yellow, yellow-green, green, please keep them home and watch for any signs of coughing. This will of course help prevent the spread of Canine Cough. Canine Cough is contacted via droplets in the air and is not generally a serious illness unless your dog has a compromised immune system.
The cough can sound like your dog has something caught in their throat and they are trying to expel it sometimes forcefully, leading the dog owner to believe they have something in their throat. Please keep your dog home for observation and if you are concerned, by all means call their vet. It is always better to be safe than sorry. But, please donโt panic; it is similar to a child catching a cold at daycare.
We don't expect to see large numbers of dogs getting sick. We require Bordetella (Kennel Cough) inoculations for every dog that comes to Superdogs, but it is still possible for a dog to contract Canine Cough (just like the flu and flu vaccine in Humans). We want our Superdogs to be as healthy as possible and this why we are reaching out to you.
I would also like to take this opportunity to go over some of our clean air equipment and the Air Purification system. We use:
*Five separate HVAC systems with digitally monitored moisture control.
*KennelSol APS (Air Purification System) products are used the 1st and 15th of each month to purify the air. We immediately performed a treatment of the air as soon as we received the phone calls. The Kennelsol APS are products which actively destroy and absorb pet odors and bacteria. When used, the gas widely penetrates facilities and effectively seeks out areas often overlooked by hard surface disinfectants. This is especially important in HVAC systems that control the flow of air in a facility. It is also especially important in hard-to-reach areas and in areas where porous surfaces, chain link fencing, cracks, crevices and other surfaces are often overlooked in a routine veterinary or kennel sanitizing program.
*We have Five Austin Air Pet Machine air scrubbers with a 360-degree air intake system that draws air through a four stage air filter that run 24 hours a day. The four stage air filter removes the following:
STAGE 1 โ Large Particle Pre-filter Removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g.dust, hair and pet dander)
STAGE 2 โ Medium Particle Pre-filter Removes small to medium size particles (e.g.molds, spores and pollen)
STAGE 3 โ About 15 lbs.of Proprietary Carbon Blend Removes chemicals, gases and odors (e.g.sulfuric acid and ammonia)
STAGE 4 โ 60 sq.ft.of Certified HEPA Removes 99.97% of all particles larger than 0.3 micro
This means more clean air delivered faster and more efficiently than any other air cleaner on the market. It means your dog is breathing really clean air. This is especially important during high pollen count days and Canine cough seasons or outbreaks.
Any dog that coughs or acts under the weather will be immediately quarantined and sent home. Thank you for being understanding and helping to keep our Superdogs healthy!
Sincerely, Mark, Judy and the Superdogs Staff
