Thanksgiving is a time for family and food, but it also comes with risks for pets if precautions aren't taken. Here are some safety tips to keep your animals safe during the holiday:

Keep food out of reach: Many Thanksgiving foods are toxic to pets, such as onions, garlic, raisins, grapes, chocolate, and certain spices. Ensure leftovers or scraps are kept safely away from curious paws.

No bones: Turkey bones, whether cooked or raw, can splinter and cause choking, digestive blockages, or internal injuries. Make sure bones are disposed of properly.

Watch the desserts: Desserts like pies, especially those with chocolate or xylitol (a sugar substitute), can be extremely toxic to pets. Keep sweets off counters and away from pets.

Limit table scraps: While it might be tempting to share with your furry friend, rich, fatty foods can upset their stomach or lead to pancreatitis. Stick to pet-safe treats instead.

Secure trash cans: Pets often find trash bags irresistible. Make sure trash cans are sealed tightly or stored away so pets can't access them and potentially ingest something harmful.
Keep pets calm during gatherings: Thanksgiving can be noisy and stressful with large groups of people. Provide a quiet space for your pet to retreat to if they get overwhelmed, and keep doors securely closed to prevent escapes.

Pet-proof the house: With guests coming and going, pets can dart out the door unnoticed. Keep an eye on exits, and consider using baby gates to restrict access to certain areas of the house.

Everyone meet Duke! He was such a cool dog with an amazing personality. His mama was so nice and interactive with him. She showed us some of his tricks and one of them being the last photo that I captured where he was giving her a high-five! As you can tell by these photos he is a very treated motivated doggy. I love when pet owners really engage with their fur babies and teach them cool things it’s always so fun to see! You and your mama rock Duke! 🤘🏻🐶
