Most horses like to be stroked or petted, rather than patted. When we get firm or vigorous, like patting a big dog, they can get accustomed to it, but it doesn’t feel very nice to them.

If you want to reward or calm them, think how it felt when their mama licked them as a foal.

Justin has a new side chick… she (or he) was born here on the ranch and he spends every morning with it feeding it grasshoppers. So. Cute. I’ll be home in three weeks from Seattle to post more updates about this little thing. He was there when she came out of the egg, so he’s mother hen 😂
