September is National Service Dog Month and we are so honored to recognize the amazing work and service these animals have done in our community. Stop by the Pet Supply store in Gilbert or Mesa to give your favorite service dog their favorite treat or toy!

Our pet's nails grow and need maintenance just like ours do. Sometimes our pets don't like their feet touched, making trimming nails difficult. An easy way to get your pet comfortable with having their nails trimmed is getting them used to having their paws touched. You can do this in just a couple of weeks with a little bit of training!

Step 1: When your pet is in a good mood, touch the top of their paws. Give a treat and praise when they tolerate you touching their paws. Do this daily for a week.
Step 2: Hold their paw in small increments, like 2 seconds. Give a treat and praise when they allow you to hold their paw. Gradually increase the time to 5 seconds, 10 seconds, etc., until your pet allows you to hold their paw for 30 seconds. Do this daily for a week.

That's it! Now your pet will feel more comfortable when it's time to take them to the groomer to trim their nails. Want more grooming tips? Give us a call or come visit us at Bark Ave Pet Resort!

Rally Obedience!

From Start to Finish and everything in-between. What is Rally Obedience? Rally-O highlights positive reinforcement and promotes an enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. Rally-O focuses on the dog and handler working together as a team as they navigate through a course with 10 to 20 different signs. It's a fun, engaging and a relationship building event that all dogs can participate in.

When you participate in an AKC Rally event, you get to show off both: Your dog’s talents and the teamwork between you. You and your dog will learn how to formally heel and navigate through the signs of a Rally Novice course. This is not your typical Rally class, our instructor understands that it takes more than run-throughs to build a confident team, and confidence can only result from good training and instruction. We will break down the skills so both you and your dog will be successful.

Already competing in Rally but need to clean a few things up? Contact our Trainer Michelle O'Neill at [email protected] or call 480 210-5610 Ext 102. Michelle Has been competing in Rally Obedience since 2005 and won Rally Masters at the 2020 AKC Rally Nationals.

Start date: Saturday September 9th.
Time: 11:45 a.m.
Prerequisite: This class is for beginners who have gone through at least one Obedience Class or Instructor Approval.
Cost: $125 for 4 weeks.

Hello! My name is Alex. I have been grooming the furry and fabulous for 7 years. I started as a bather and worked my way up to pet groomer. My favorite breed to groom are poodles and Shih Tzus, but I love anything furry with four legs! I love being creative with my grooming by doing pet-safe creative colors on pups and providing cute accessories to my grooms.
