Happy Labor Day! Thank you to all of our hard-working Veterinarians, Vet Techs, Assistants, and Receptionists. Fox Run Animal Hospital would not exist nor be able to provide the exceptional care that we do without your hard work and effort. Your labor does not go unrecognized or unappreciated.

We will be closed today, Friday, August 30 and Monday, September 2 to allow our staff to enjoy the Labor Day weekend with friends and family. If your pet needs emergency care while we are closed, we recommend the following Urgent Care centers. Don’t forget to forward any ER records to Fox Run Animal Hospital if you are seeking emergency care.

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. Whether you lost your furry friend last week, last month, or years ago, their memory still lives on in your heart. Today gives all pet-lovers a day to share memories of their beloved pets that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We at Fox Run are still mourning the loss of our Public Relations Manager, Molly. Molly was born a barn cat in 2005, and in 2016 retired to a life of inside living with us at Fox Run. Unfortunately, Molly was diagnosed with a primary lung tumor and crossed the Rainbow Bridge in January. She is still missed every day. Post a memorial below for a pet you have loved and lost. 🌈🌈🌈

Saturday, August 17 is Clear the Shelters Day! Clear the Shelters is a national event that was launched by NBC and Telemundo-owned television stations in 2015. Since then, it has helped more than 860,000 pets find their forever homes and created countless heartwarming stories of second chances. Clear the Shelters runs from August 1st through 31st, but the third Saturday in August is set aside specifically to raise awareness about the plight of homeless animals and serve as a reminder that many animals still need a safe and loving home. Drop a picture of your rescue pet below and share your story!

Pictured below is our receptionist, Megan, with Hazel, a shelter dog she adopted in 2020. Someone purchased her from a breeder at 8 weeks to be a "road-trip" dog. Just imagine....a puppy in a car nonstop. Go figure, it didn't work out and Hazel got dumped at the Genesee County Humane Society. Lucky for Hazel Megan and her husband Kevin adopted her, and now she is living the good life. Free ice cream and all!

Today is All American Pet Photo Day! We want to see your photos!

All American Pet Photo Day is dedicated to all pet owners owners across America to demonstrate their affection and admiration for their beloved pets. By capturing endearing poses, funny moments, or just day-to-day elements of their pets' lives in photographic form, participants engage in a joyous nationwide appreciation of animal companionship and marvel at the often surprising antics of their feathered, finned, and furry friends.
Although its exact origins remain undocumented, All American Pet Photo Day has been embraced enthusiastically by pet owners, pet care professionals, and animal lovers all over the country. It fosters community spirit, encourages the adoption of pets from local shelters, and raises awareness about the health and well-being of animals. The event often expands beyond domestic pets to include images of local wildlife or even farm animals, demonstrating a broader appreciation of animal life in America.
On this day, social media platforms come alive with adorable, amusing, and artistic snapshots of pets and animals of all kinds. Whether it's an epic outdoor adventure with a faithful hound, a quiet cuddle with a cherished cat, or the fluttering antics of a busy bird, no moment is too grand or too small to capture and share. All American Pet Photo Day, which occurs annually on July 11th, encourages us all to celebrate the wonderful animals in our lives.
All American Pet Photo Day facts

We recently saw a turkey vulture from Critter Crossing Rehabilitation. This bird was unable to fly and had a dropped right wing. It was not very friendly and needed to be anesthetized to allow for a safe exam for all of us. Once sedated, Dr. Findora palpated an open fracture of the right humerus. We took an x-ray and found an old fracture that was trying to heal inappropriately. Being that this is a wild animal, we decided humane euthanasia was best because it would not ever be able to fly again to seek out food or avoid predation.

Our customer service representative, Megan, has been with Fox Run for 2 years! Megan started in veterinary medicine in 2019 and joined the Fox Run team in 2022 as a Technician Assistant. Megan’s tendency to jump in and assist throughout the hospital helped her find her “niche” at the front desk. At heart Megan is a crazy cat lady. She enjoys spending time with her 4 dogs, 3 cats, and her husband. Megan is a skilled quilter and loves cozy bonfires at home.

What happens in "the back"? We often will bring patients to our treatment area for blood draws, injections and procedures. There are many reasons for this. First, the treatment room is our central hub for instruments, medications and people. We keep all of the things in one place to better utilize them by the entire staff. Our assistants are usually in the treatment room to help hold onto your pet for the technicians. Second, many people do not like needles, blood or other bodily fluids. We have had people faint in our exam rooms - something we would like to avoid! Third, our exam rooms do not have fans. Anything stinky, like a**l glands, we try to keep out of the rooms. Fourth, and most important, we want to snuggle, smoosh and be completely ridiculous in a judgement free zone. We LOVE pets! And we love to love YOUR pets. Most patients that visit our treatment room receive all of the cutesy voices, many treats and love from every staff member that pass by. Samson recently visited and he was more than happy to play with and snuggle everyone that came close!
