I was out walking and noticed a small flash of color dance by, it was this beautiful little maple orchard orb weaver 🥹✨

Her colors were so breathtaking; bright orange, metallic turquoise, lime green, stripes of white, speckles of red. I want to paint her now 🎨👩🏻‍🎨🕷️

A client recently reached out to me and asked if I could spruce up their yard on a budget. They moved into a new apartment and wanted to refresh their outdoor space while staying within a “renter friendly” price range. A lot of us are renting nowadays, and a lot of us don’t want to put any extra time and money into a place that isn’t ours 🏡💰

There are some small & cost-effective changes that can be made to drastically alter the feel of an indoor/outdoor space, while using things that are already there to begin with. This client gave me a price, and the creative liberty to make executive decisions, and I was able to get it done in one day— and within the price range 👩🏻‍🎨🪴

We used some of the existing rocks/bricks that were there and added them into the final layout to add a border & clean edges. We used the same plants but moved & replanted them to make it cleaner and easier to walk through. They’re keeping some of the plant hangers and other fixtures so they can paint them to make them good as new 🪨🌿

We’re going to add a herb garden, native butterfly flowers, a bird feeder, and some solar powered string lights to give it the perfect ambiance, day and night! 🐦‍⬛🦋

This sweet little Purple Gallinule was hiding in a ixora bush with an injured wing, and was at risk of being attacked by local wildlife 🐈🦝

After coaxing it down from the bush I was able to capture it and safely transport it to for a proper examination and medical care 🏥💖

Purple Gallinules are native to Florida, and typically inhabit freshwater marshes. They like to hide amongst tall grasses and snack on local flora, and small fauna like insects and spiders. They’re known to be great fliers and can be found out of their normal range quite often. They don’t have webbed toes, but are great swimmers nonetheless! 🪷✨

I feel so lucky and am so grateful to have been able to spend time with this beautiful Florida native. I’ll post updates on my stories once this little one has had some time to settle and have medical treatment 💜🩹

A couple of beautiful golden silk orb-weavers on a sunny day 🌴✨

Golden silk orb-weaver spiders are commonly found in warmer regions throughout the world. Their venom is non-lethal to humans, they’re not aggressive, and they rarely bite unless they feel threatened. Their bite has been compared to a bee sting and the effects are have said to last less than 24 hours, and are not harmful to pets. ☀️🐝

Female golden silk orb-weavers are considerably larger than their male counterparts. If you’ve spotted one of these beauties in the wild, you’ve most likely seen a female. 💕💋

Males can be found somewhere on the outskirts of the female’s web, hoping to mate with her, and not become dinner. (unfortunately for the male, it will) 🍽️👅

A golden orb-weavers silk is so strong that it could stop a bullet. It is naturally golden in color, delicately light, and has a beautiful sheen. It is one of the rarest silks in the world. 💪🕸️

In 2009, a cape was made from the silk of wild golden orb-weavers. The spiders were be collected, 100ft of silk were extracted from them (which took approximately 5 mins per spider), and they were released back into the wild. This process took years and 1.2 million golden orb-weavers. 🕷️✨

Before and after of a veryyy necessary leaf wipe down 🌿

Leaves are like solar panels to a plant! If they’re covered in dust, dirt, and grime, they can’t access the sun and therefore are not producing as much energy for the plant! ☀️

Wiping them down regularly ensures that your plant stays happy, healthy, and clean! I use diluted dawn dish soap mixed with water in a spray bottle to spray the leaves. I wipe them down with paper towels and finish with microfiber cloths 🧼

Spring is here, which means it’s officially nesting season! 🥹🪹💕

With longer and warmer days, spring brings an abundance of fresh food, afternoon showers, and lush places for animals to make nests for the season 🪺🐣🌿

During spring it can be common to see ducklings playing in puddles, baby squirrels chittering in trees, and chicks chirping in their nests. You may also spot baby raccoons, opossums, mice, bunnies, deer, among others! 🦆 🐿️ 🐥

The first picture is him now, enjoying his freshly cut cucumber along with some oyster calcium and romaine! (There’s also a sweet potato and a broccolini leaf in there)

The second picture is from the day that I found him in my houseplant in January 🥹 he was so smol and is the reason that I now own a a lovely little snail terrarium 🐌🌿✨

(His name is Lenny because when I saw him in the pot I originally thought he was a lentil) 🥲
