Calendula 🌼 an anti-inflammatory, anti fungal, and wound healing plant. Eaten raw, in decoctions, or as a topical cream. Both beautiful and useful.

Our goal this year and moving forward is to be more conscious of what’s on our plate. Where did it come from, and can it be at least 60% homegrown and raised/caught/hunted by us?

Learning so much about harvesting timing with this inconsistent South Florida weather. Timing is everything, but happy to reap the benefits of planting and nurturing our plants. ✨🌱✨🌱✨🌱

This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but part of growing food for us means self sufficiency, knowing where our food comes from, and distancing ourselves from conventional farming methods (feedlots, CAFOs or concentrated Animal feeding operations, hormones, etc).

I think this process creates a new level of appreciation for the animals and the food system. There’s nothing easy about this, it is in fact hard work from start to finish but so rewarding to be able to feed our family clean protein that we raised ourselves. Feeling extra grateful today as the new year begins.

A nourished body, nourishes your soul. Not just “healthy” eating, but actual Intentional food. Grown, raised, foraged, etc. With your touch of energy, even if that means a home cooked meal, which is an intentional act of love.

This intention of living (its not perfect by any means) elevates our lives in such a meaningful way. Not only with each other in our little homestead, but also with friends and community. I LOVE that I have found like minded people in this beautiful metropolitan city that is Miami ☀️🌴🌊.

Ok enough sappy talk, but I’ve been in my feelings this week reflecting on life. Thank you friends and followers for liking and following this little page that means so much to us ♥️.

Pollinators are vital in our lives. Just bees 🐝 alone pollinate approximately 75% of the fruits, nuts, and vegetables grown in the United States. This equates to $15 billion dollars worth of crops.

Attended a workshop with .miami to learn all about sourdough. We no longer buy bread, and hope to keep it that way.

This Rye fed masa madre is higher in nutrients and lower in gluten, compared to other breads. This has opened the door (for me) to also make other staples like tortillas, and pizza crusts at home.

I’m a great cook, but never considered baking as my forte at all. But, on the mission of self sufficiency, we continue to learn new skills 💪🏽🥖🥐.

Highly recommend my friends class, and her sourdough starter ✨💛.

Aji Cachucha 🌶️
(cap chili pepper)

Cachucha chile peppers are aromatic and crunchy with sweet, fruity, grassy, and smoky flavors mixed with mild heat.
A staple in many Miami kitchens, and in our garden.

Turmeric 🍂
A great aid for inflammation, but has also shown to assist in other conditions like arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory infections, allergies, liver disease, depression, and so much more.

The saying Food is medicine (or your poison) can’t be truer. Patiently waiting for the harvest 😅♥️.

Growing Hua Moa (Hawaiano) plantains was a great idea. Purchased the first tree from the best, and propagated from there on. These grow well, and have quickly become a staple in our house. When they’re green we make tostones topped with garlic salt 🤤 and as they mature they become platanitos Maduros 😋. I’m sure every culture has a different way of cooking these.
What’s your favorite way to eat them?

30 to 45 day crops 🥬
Summers in Alaska are an exciting time for locals to grow all sorts of goods. With an average of 18-20 hours of sunlight (South Alaska), vegetables here grow quick and big! ☀️
We opted for something simple given our limited time. We thrifted 3 pots and got organic bok choy and lettuce mix seeds.
They grew, and we’re still eating them! 😄
