🐶✨ The Magic of Crate Training with Love & Positivity! ✨🐾

Crate training often gets a mixed reputation, but when done with patience and positive reinforcement, it can become one of the most effective and rewarding methods for training your pup! Here’s why it’s so important:
1. A Safe Space: A crate becomes a dog’s den—a safe, cozy space where they can rest, relax, and decompress. Dogs naturally seek out small, secure places to feel comfortable, so when the crate is associated with good experiences, it becomes a haven, not a prison.
2. Prevents Anxiety: For dogs that struggle with nervousness or fear, a crate can provide stability and reduce anxiety. The key is to introduce it slowly and with positive associations, like treats, toys, and a calm voice.
3. A Tool for Training: Crate training helps with housebreaking and prevents your pup from chewing on things they shouldn’t when you’re not around. Using positive reinforcement, like rewarding your dog every time they enter the crate calmly, builds a loving bond and a willingness to cooperate.
4. Travel Safety: Crate training makes traveling safer and less stressful, whether it’s a vet visit or a road trip. Dogs who are used to crates feel more at ease, which makes journeys smoother for everyone.
5. And most importantly, Managing a dog’s space is detrimental to helping them avoid learning enjoyable but unwanted behaviors.

**🐾 Hurricane Prep for Pets 🐾**

1. **Pet Emergency Kit** 🦴:
- Food & water (3-7 days supply)
- Medications & medical records
- Leash, collar, & ID tags

2. **Safe Space** 🏡:
- Prepare a pet carrier/crate
- Comfort items (blankets, toys)

3. **Identification** 🏷:
- Microchip info updated
- Waterproof ID tag on collar

4. **Evacuation Plan** 🚗:
- Pet-friendly shelters or hotels
- Keep pets close & secure

5. **After the Storm** 🌪:
- Be cautious of hazards outside
- Watch for signs of stress

I’ve been in this field professionally since 2006 and before that as a decoy, apprentice, kennel tech since I was very young and I’ve seen all 4 quadrants of training used by the best. And through lots of studies, experience and research I’ve come up with my own principles. But this is a great explanation to anyone new to the field!

Help us help dogs of miami. Donate to Friends of Miami Animals Foundation, Inc.

On Saturday, February 12th, Wings of Rescue will be transporting nearly 100 from Miami-Dade Animal Services to rescue partners in the northeast.

With overcrowding prevalent and far too many pets having spent more than 100 days at MDAS, transport partners help save lives by alleviating the stresses that having such a large number of animals in the shelter causes. Additionally, these transport partners help some of the amazing animals who have been long overlooked get to new locations where fresh eyes will be able to see the awesomeness of our Miami-Dade dogs and cats.

These transport missions are life-saving, but they cost thousands of dollars—for the flight, personnel, and everything in between. But with our support, our partners are able to lend a hand. Or, more appropriately, lend a wing!

Bring your dogs to the professionals, those doggie hotels popping up being run by hustlers and entrepreneurs can be dangerous.
