Truly a lightweight, our latest patient was a first for Pets In Stitches. We performed a leg amputation on a 5-week-old kitten that weighed only 1.3 pounds.

Administering anesthesia on a patient this small has significant challenges, but our experienced, capable team kept the kitten safe during surgery. She is now thriving and living out her second chance at life!

Your pet can't talk to you, but they have plenty of ways to communicate. Watch for two key signs that they're experiencing pain:

• Limping: If you notice your pet favoring a leg or paw, they may have pulled a muscle, stepped on something sharp, or are having a flare-up of an underlying condition like arthritis. Ouch!

• Licking: If your pet is licking one spot repeatedly, they may be trying to alleviate pain. In time, this licking can lead to "hot spots," or sores that can cause even more discomfort.

If you notice either of these signs, or other unusual behavior from your pet, contact your vet to pinpoint the underlying cause.
