Today is the perfect example of the wild Midwest weather. Yesterday the kids were playing outside in shorts and sandals. Today it is snowing. Which is why our stand is still closed for the winter/early spring season. However I will continue to have bake sales when the weather allows until we open for the season (looking like mid May?). Our next big bake sale is our Easter event April 11th & 12th.

With all that being said this Friday the 21st looks to be beautiful weather. I have decided to have the stand open and bake some bread! Our menu just dropped on HotPlate and you can place an order. I do NOT plan to make extras as this is just a mini sale. So if you would like bread please click the link and place an order! 👉🏻🔗 https://www.hotplate.com/lauxfamilyfarmllc/ed3e41ee-58f6-4758-89c5-9e1cc4d56579

🍀Tomorrow Friday March 14th starts our two day St. Patrick’s Bake Sale at the farm stand! Along with our baked goods and handcrafted items we will also have 20+ dozen chicken eggs ($6️⃣) and 3 half dozen packages of duck eggs available!

🍀I will load the mini fridge at our farm stand around 11am when I open the stand (it’s just me so if I’m running behind please have grace I’m going to do my best to be on time🫣). All eggs sold on a first come first served basis.

🍀I am making extra baked goods for this event so if you didn’t place an order you still have a chance to snag some delicious bread and cookies! Like the last 2 events pre-orders will be bagged and marked in the livestock trailer.

Any questions please leave them in the comments as our DM‘s are flooded and it’s really difficult for me to get to all of them. Thanks! ♥️

We had hoped programs that directly support *small farmers feeding school children* would be safe from the illegal chainsawing of federally funded projects, but we are deeply heartbroken and upset to share that on March 10, 2025 the USDA announced the Local Food for Schools and Childcare Centers program has been terminated. It is our understanding that, as of now, the current round of Local Food for Schools (LFS) will be allowed to continue until its conclusion this spring.

Investing in our children’s nutrition is not wasteful spending. Developing farmers who grow fresh food we can eat–that isn’t exported and stays in our communities–is not waste. The non-profit food system workers who dedicate their time to make these programs happen, volunteering hours and relying on private-sector funds for personnel costs are not waste. Local Food for Schools funding only ever went to direct purchases of food and the costs of distribution. All the work NWIFC staff (and other organizations like us) do to support Farm to School efforts has been funded with other sources. This includes supporting farmers as they scale up their production to feed thousands of school children, providing support to food service staff who are learning to scratch cook with seasonal foods, providing support to teachers and school staff who are implementing agriculture and nutrition education programming, supporting school garden efforts, and much more. LFS and LFSCC were already designed to be lean and avoid “waste.” We have made the program successful, as we have with all our other programs, by leveraging community resources and in partnership.

For the two years we’ve implemented this program in NW Indiana, the NWI Food Council has facilitated over $1 million in sales for small scale local farmers, and distributed nearly 2 million pounds of LOCAL food to 134 NW Indiana K-12 schools to be served on their breakfast and lunch lines. Through this funding, school food service directors had the opportunity to train their staff on scratch cooking and see the impact first hand how local, fresh, and scratch-made food supports our children’s learning and wellbeing. Schools have reported increases in lunch sales because the children have come to expect flavorful, nourishing food on the menu. Food waste at participating schools has significantly decreased because children enjoy the food. Children got to try new, healthy, and scratch-made foods like eggplant parmesan, tamale pie, beet hummus, biscuits and gravy, bahn mi bowls, black garlic rice, and more.

Farmers participating in this program have already ordered their seeds and equipment to provide for our schools this coming growing season. School budgets, already strained, are on track for having to make impossible decisions as terminating LFSCC compounds other budget cuts, including dramatic gutting to the Community Eligibility Provision, which provides financial assistance to schools feeding food insecure students.

More children will go hungry. Farmers will go out of business. And this is on top of the gutting of the Local Food Purchase Assistance 2025 (LFPA 2025) program that has moved similar amounts of local food in our region, but to food banks and food pantries. Food insecure children are at crisis level risks in the richest country in history.

We need your help. We know so many of you have already gotten loud over many injustices happening to our vulnerable neighbors. Add this to your list or make this your first brave effort to tell our elected officials this is not acceptable, we will not accept this for our community. Pushback works. Get loud with us for our farmers, our children and our community!

You can go to our website for more information to support your advocacy as we quickly work to make updates today. Farmers, we need your stories and your voices–we will be reaching out to you directly to work through this together. Sustainable Agriculture Coalition

We are SO close to hitting 5k Subscribers on YouTube! If you arent following along yet would you do me a big favor and go subscribe? 🥹 Pretty please 🙏🏻

Although TikTok is our primary focus when it comes to social media and building an amazing community of people (Facebook a close second🫶🏻). YouTube is where we actually started sharing our farm. The old videos make me cringe a little now that Alex and I have grown so much with our editing and filming skills, but you have to start somewhere.

I don’t think I’ve talked about this much publicly but my inspiration to start documenting and sharing our farm on YouTube was actually the passing of my Grandpa Hank. He was a third generation farmer and always happy to hear all about our little homestead. After he passed (December 2021) I no longer felt like I had someone to share the highs and lows of our farm with. In every farm or garden tour video I pretend I am talking to him and showing him all the new things. No doubt he would be so proud of all the growth and changes we’ve made these last 4 years. ❤️

Anyways thank you all so much for your love. Never could I have imagined Alex and I would be were we are today. So much of that is because of you all.

Although our farm stand is closed for the winter we host monthly bake sales to celebrate the holidays. This past weekend was our second annual Valentine's Po...
