We are collecting donations of small bags or cans of pet food until Jan 21st! Please donate if you are able! 🖤🐾

Let's show extra love to the cat families in our community this month! While we are beyond grateful for how generous all of you are with your pet food donations, we typically don't receive as much cat kibble and wet food. There's an increase in the need for cat food donations for our community. If you are out and about this weekend, could you remember this month’s Feeding Hope Pet Food Pantry, please?

Your generous pet food donations have helped MHS' Feeding Hope reach hundreds or even thousands of families. People who contact Michiana Humane Society for help and people visiting the food pantry at Trinity Episcopal Church Michigan City benefit from the dry and canned pet food as well as LaPorte Co Meals on Wheels.

They have 20+ clients who responded "yes" when asked if they could use pet food in addition to the meals they regularly receive. Knowing how important pets are to homebound seniors, we are eager to do our very best to help them.

Until 5:00pm CT on Tuesday, January 21st, we will be collecting smaller, unopened bags of dry kibble and unopened cans of wet food.

The reason that smaller bags are preferred is:

1) We can distribute to that many more families.
2) Many people visiting the food pantry are on foot. When larger bags are donated, we are unable to divide into smaller sized bags as they all need to be labeled and have nutritional information when distributed. We also cannot accept opened bags as we need to be able to guarantee what is actually in the bag.

Your donation of pet food may be what makes a difference in a family needing to surrender their pet or be able to keep them. We need your help to support families and their pets within our community.

You may drop items off at Michiana Humane Society or with our partners: Welcott Farm in Galien, MI or if you are shopping at Brandt's Old Fashion Emporium, you can purchase pet food from them, and they will hold it for us until pick-up. Let's work together to make a difference and show kindness and help to share the love❤

Meet our 🤍New Beginnings Puppies🤍 We chose "New Beginning" names for them because on November 7th, they were found in a box, on the side of the road, covered in a towel and nearly freezing at barely one week old. A good Samaritan found them and rushed them to the shelter. We were able to bring up their core temperatures and nurse all but one sweetheart back to health. They arrived as little fighters and we felt they deserved the brightest new beginning we could provide for them🤍

Three amazing foster families opened their home and worked literally around the clock to bottle-feed them. Almost exactly two months later, they are happy, healthy, energetic, extremely well-socialized puppies who are ready for another beginning with their forever family.

They will be available for adoption beginning on Thursday, January 9th from 2pm-6pm CT at Michiana Humane Society. We are hoping that they will each find their very own family, but if they do not receive an approved application, the next day that they will be available for adoption is TBD. We will update on social media.

If you want to adopt one of these puppies, your first step will be to come to the shelter on Thursday to meet them! You can read about our adoption policies and procedures here: www.michianapets.org/how-to-adopt.

They are about two-and-a-half months old and are spayed/neutered. We expect them to be on the larger size when they are fully-grown, but as always, we cannot guarantee what their size will be. One of our fosters completed a DNA test and it came back as pittie mix!

They all grew up in amazing foster homes with people and other friendly pets. We always suggest continuing puppy socializing and enroll your pup in training classes so he/she can grow into well-behaved, socialized adults. Individual details to be released Wednesday evening! Stay tuned!
