Over the past three years, your generous pet food donations have helped MHS' Feeding Hope reach hundreds or even thousands of families. People who contact Michiana Humane Society for help and people visiting the food pantry at Trinity Episcopal Church Michigan City benefit from the dry and canned pet foods.

Now your generosity goes further! We are adding LaPorte Co Meals on Wheels to our distribution. They currently have 20+ clients who responded "yes" when asked if they could use pet food in addition to the meals they regularly receive. Knowing how important pets are to homebound seniors, we are eager to do our very best to help them. You probably are, too!

Until 5:00pm CT on Tuesday, June 18th, we will be collecting smaller, unopened bags of dry kibble and unopened cans of wet food. The reason that smaller bags are preferred is 1) we can distribute to that many more families and 2) many people visiting the food pantry are on foot. When larger bags are donated, we are unable to divide into smaller sized bags as they all need to be labeled and have nutritional information when distributed. We also cannot accept opened bags as we need to be able to guarantee what is actually in the bag.

You can help provide relief when funds are spread thin for families in our community. Let's work together to help make this happen. Your donation of pet food may be what makes a difference in a family needing to surrender their pet or be able to keep them. Finances can be tight year-round. We need your help to support families and their pets within our community. Can you help us help others?

You may drop items off at Michiana Humane Society or with our partners: Welcott Farm in Galien, MI or if you are shopping at Brandt's Old Fashion Emporium, you can purchase pet food from them, and they will hold it for us until pick-up. Interested adopters must have French Bulldog experience as my breed can have a few quirks and the nice humans here at MHS want to set me up for success. I'm about 24 pounds, am neutered, and am three years old. I love to play fetch and will divert my attention towards any squeaky toy immediately.

I'm pretty much a social butterfly. I like to meet new people and listen to them talk about how cute and handsome I am. They tell me that I look and sometimes sound like a lil' gremlin with all my grunting and snorting. Then they tell me how cute I am again.

I have relatively decent leash-walking manners but could still use a little help in that area! In my previous home, I've done well with being mostly house-trained and I'm a chill dude when you're out getting more squeaky toys for me. I've never lived with kiddos but have been super friendly towards respectful ones that I have met. I've done alright with some other dog friends before. It just depends on the other dog.

A few of my other favorite activities are swimming, snuggling, and running. The humans at MHS say they wish they had all the time in the world to spend with me because I'm such a good boy. I love them and they love me!

As far as what I’d like my ideal home to be, I'd love someone to take me for walkies. I'm not too interested in treats or puzzles. Playing fetch with toys is how I like to get my exercise. Then, let's spend the afternoon cuddling together. Love, Snickers.

Today is a prime example of why shelters are overfull, struggling for dollars, and staffed with tired, overwhelmed employees. A lady came to us to inquire about our hours. She was in the driveway when a car pulled up, a guy jumped out of his vehicle, handed her this milk crate with 5 Littles, and jumped back in the vehicle and left. This poor woman was dumbfounded, and the supervisor was making haste to get out there as she was a witness to the incident. So here we are, no room at the inn, and more mouths to feed, vet, and find space for. In an optimistic view, these babies being in this milk crate could of been left at the door and God knows then what would of happened to them. Always could be worse. We are struggling to get this building fund going, make insurance happy with cosmetic fixes until we can build, and take care of our residents as is. Heavy sigh... so here is C**t, Wi******er, R***r, Beretta, and Re*****on!

🧡⭐adopted⭐🧡

Meet Ramen and Noodle! They are about one year old best buds and are wanting to be adopted together! These boys are nosey, curious, and are quite outgoing!

They love chewing on sticks and they actually really love to play with cat toys. Marshmallows, blueberries, bananas, carrots, frozen peas, and apples are snacks they like to nibble on every now and then! They are for sure foodies!

Ramen and Noodle are used to free-roaming in their previous home and they were acclimated to using a cat litterbox when not in their kennel. So, ideally, it'd be awesome for them to have a very large enclosure in their new home and to also have time out and about to explore. They are used to living in a home with cats who realized they were friends and not food! At night, Ramen and Noodle would snuggle up with their kitty friends. They weren't too crazy about the dogs in their previous home, though.

"Food motivated" is the perfect way to describe these two. They like to nuzzle into a sweatshirt pocket and cuddle close. We love Ramen and Noodle so much. You will, too. Come meet them and see for yourself!
