Winnie noticed that there was a collection of super soft blankets in this corner in the office that our social media coordinator uses for photoshoots. Winnie just assumed that they were all there for her🥹🥹🥹 It was the cutest thing ever.
We couldn't have asked for a better office pup. Winnie was quiet and calm while we were working but then when we needed a break, she'd bring her toy over for a little game of fetch. She will drop the toy right on your lap, too!
At the shelter, Winnie has had wonderfully positive interactions with kiddos! She also has done quite well with kitties! Depending on the dog, she may do alright. She used to live with a male dog and enjoyed his company.
She will ask for a few minutes to get to know you, then she will show you that she has every characteristic that will make her a perfect best friend. Winnie is about 2½-years-old and is spayed. She is around 50ish pounds. Come meet this perfect sweetheart🧡
We are still looking for a place for Rocco❤ Whether that is a foster home, a foster-to-adopt home, or an adopter, the shelter environment is extra hard on partially paralyzed pups so if you have experience working with dogs in wheelchairs, maybe you are the one for Rocco. He's done just fine around other friendly pets so hopefully that opens some doors!
Our amazing vet staff, kennel staff, and volunteers have been working so hard on making adjustments to his cart. Without the cart, Rocco was walking by dragging his back legs; causing his rear paws to become extremely callused. And, here in a couple of weeks, a brand new, custom-fit wheelchair for Rocco will be arriving thanks to the owner of Paws in Motion who personally sponsored it❤️
Rocco’s ideal home would have minimal stairs and, if any, older children. He's not a fan of a lot of "in his face" type of interaction. Once he knows you, he likes to sit close to you with your arm around him. He loves to be around people and will scoot closer for affection when he wants it. He is about twenty pounds, about three years old, and is neutered.
If you can foster Rocco and already have an approved application on file with us, please call us at 219-872-4499. If you would like to foster Rocco and need to fill out the application, you can find it here: www.michianapets.org/fostering. To adopt him, stop by MHS! He may need a couple of minutes to get to know you when you get here, so please just be patient. Trust us when we say that he comes around and has so much love to offer ❤️❤️❤️ #RoccoStrong #pawsinmotionbraces
⭐Star⭐, who absolutely loves meeting respectful children, is an all-star student! Not only is she smart, but she is so food-motivated! And she loves attention!
She is the ultimate character and is constantly making us smile and bring us happiness and joy.
She loves food and likes to open cabinets and hide in them while she is looking for snackies. When we are having lunch, Star is right there. This girl never misses an opportunity for a treat! She is unique, and hilarious!
Most of the time, you can find her dozing off in a sunray, but when she sees you, she'll run right up to say hello! She will get up to play with feathery toys now and then, though! She'd prefer no other kitty friends. Star is about six years old and is spayed⭐🩶⭐
We've been telling you for months now how intuitive adoptable Jet is. This girl just KNOWS when you've had a not-so-good day and you need comfort. Well, not only is Jet intuitive, but she sure knows how to communicate what she is feeling, too! Like this video for example...Jet says, "It is time to PLAY!"
In her foster home, she's done quite well with her dog foster siblings. She prefers to be the only kitty. We think kiddos should be about 8ish and older for Jet. Her adoption fee has been sponsored to an approved applicant. She is about 6½-years-old and is spayed. Has she been waiting for you? 🩷
Baby Biscuits is chatty, affectionate, interactive, and is such a sweetheart🩷 She loves to talk and chirp to you when you are hanging out with her as you can clearly see in this video! Baby Biscuits loves to play with feathery toys and has expert hunting skills! She is about 4½-years-old and is spayed. She prefers to be the only kitty in her new home. Baby Biscuits is currently living in another area at the shelter, so please ask our front desk coordinators to meet her when you arrive🩷
Hello everyone, my name is Snoop. I do believe I'm a professional swimmer. Look at me go! I'm just around seven months old and I'm neutered. I feel so special because the humans here tell me that I remind them of Eeyore because I'm beyond adorable but I'm also quite reserved. I'm still learning about being socialized so I'd be ever so appreciative if you understood that I will need time to get to know you once you arrive.
I'm a scared fellow and I feel safest in people's arms vs. walking. Well, we all know that I will need to learn to walk at some point so the humans here are showing me that walking on a leash and meeting other people and friendly pets can be good!
What may really help me gain more confidence is being around another dog who is kind to me and is more outgoing. I have lived with another dog friend before and I really liked my time being around her. It'd be beneficial for me to be adopted into a home with another dog. Other puppy friends who are high-energy and are over-the-top will probably be a little too much for me. And I would think the same for kiddos; could they be older, please? Commotion and craziness aren't what I prefer just yet. Who knows what I will be like when I become more social but, as of now, calmness suits me best.
I really love to be close to people. Scooching near so we can snuggle makes me feel safe. I'm still learning about being house-trained so would you be willing to teach me, please? I weigh about ten pounds so I'm small and tiny but I have so much love to offer. Love, Snoop.
Oh, Jet. We just have NO idea how you haven't been swooped up! Jet's foster mom will tell you that her little chirps, her polydactyl mittens, and her amazing intuition and ability to snuggle your bad day away are all what makes her so special. She is always the sweetest and the cutest💕 Jet is playful but easy-going. She is interactive but loves looking out the window. She is extroverted and loves going for harnessed walkies but also is the first to jump next to you to be introverted and curl up to read a book or watch a show.
Adventurers! Hikers! Nature lovers! If you want a dog to accompany you on all your outings, we have the perfect girl for you: Diamond. And we KNOW she is awesome at all kinds of camping+etc. fun because she has gone on trips! She is hoping that an adventure-fan will adopt her🖤🤍🖤
Diamond's ideal owner would be active and love to hike and explore. She does great on challenging terrain and is the perfect trail pup. She is incredibly coordinated and has managed some impressive climbs. She would love to be your camping buddy and keep you company on all your adventures.
She went on a 4-day backpacking trip and did amazingly well; carried her own pack, cuddled up in the tent at night, and kept those she was with feeling safe the whole time.
Diamond ignores dogs beautifully when out and about. She redirects simply just to please. She also has done well with some playful, non-reactive & friendly male pups but we think she'd be happiest having all of someone's attention to herself, but if your resident dog is a good boy and is easy-going with other dogs, he may be a great furbrother to Diamond. We would suggest older children, probably about 12ish and up.
If you want one of the world's most loyal dogs to be your literal adventure and hiking buddy, Diamond is waiting for you. She is about four years old, weighs about 50ish pounds, and is spayed. If you are wanting to adopt her, come to MHS and we'll bring her out for you🖤🤍🖤
This big boy is Rodger. He is a 100% complete lovebug. He will nuzzle close and emphatically whenever he can. When he comes in for the snuggle, you better be ready be Rodger comes in full force with all the love he has! He'll nudge your hand and make it clear that he wants to be petted and have all of your focus on him.
Rodger's middle name may as well be "Charmer" because he is so charming, so charismatic, and is one of those cats who is basically a furry social butterfly.
He has shown positive curiosity around other friendly felines! Since he hasn't been with us very long, we're still keeping an eye on his hangout time with other cats. "How does Rodger do with kids," you may ask?! Well, as long as they are respectful, we couldn't imagine a better furbrother for your children. Rodger is the coolest cat.
From the minute he came in, he was all purrs, all lovey, all pure perfection. Rodger is about five years old and is neutered.
We've never seen a sweeter 48-pound darling than Darla🤎 She has the most amazing manners, loves interacting with everyone she meets, and has the most happy-go-lucky personality She knows how to sit, stay, lay down, and come. She's a petite princess who is funny and social and we're so in love.
Darla loves tennis balls. She will play fetch as long as you are willing to throw the ball. She is so fast! She is a very treat-motivated darling. Her only request, aside from loving her as much as she will love you, is if she could be the only furbaby in her new home.
At around eight years young, we think she'd be most content being the center of your world. Darla has the most soulful eyes, the prettiest face, and gives the gentlest kisses. She is spayed so please come show her how good life can be in a home🤎
This little seal lookalike is Amari. She couldn't be any cuter if she tried. Ugh. Seriously, MHS followers, her squishy face is even more precious in person. And! She has the silliest, most endearing personality. She thinks belly rubs are the best things ever and she will flop over with nearly zero body control whenever she wants one. We are laughing nonstop when we are with her.
Overall, Amari does quite well on a leash! She's not a huge puller and she is a joy to be around. She is happy to accept lots of petting and is never one to end a cuddle session. We are teaching Amari polite manners like staying down and not jumping. This girl just gets so excited to be around people she can't contain her happiness! Amari seems to know how to sit and mostly lay down. She loved to work for string cheese for sure! The perfect way to describe her is that she is just a happy, good girl!
As far as other furry friends go, when she saw shelter pups, she seemed very friendly and had loose body language. She also did some play bows and little hops when she saw another dog walking on leash while she was on leash. We think she could do well with another friendly dog but we will continue to watch her interactions and will update. We're also still monitoring her around shelter kitties! We think Amari would be such a cool fursister to your respectful kiddos!
Amari is about 55-pounds and is about three years old and is spayed.
We don't often receive partially paralyzed pets like adoptable (or fosterable) Rocco, so when we do, we are beyond grateful for an entire village that comes together all in the hopes of making a pet's life while at the shelter better.
When Rocco first arrived, the only way he could move around was by dragging himself using his front legs. The tops of his back paws were very callused and his quality of life was not good. We also carried him and pushed him around in a grocery cart.
Our vet staff, kennel staff, and volunteers worked quickly to fashion a "sling" to help keep his back legs up. MHS Volunteer Alan built Rocco the cart in this video so he could have some freedom. MHS Volunteer Sharon made sure to bring Rocco the yummiest chicken so he would have motivation to learn how to use his new wheels! Our kennel staff and vet staff are continuing to work with Rocco on being fitted into his harness and using his cart several times each day.
It sure is a good thing that Rocco is learning how to use his cart because after Sharon and Alan transported Rocco to Paws In Motion in Valparaiso so we could get his measurements, the owner of Paws in Motion personally sponsored a brand new, custom-fit wheelchair for Rocco which will be arriving in several weeks❤️
It has been incredible to see Rocco learn that he can have a wonderful quality of life and also to see so many people come together to help this super special shelter pet❤️ And we thank you all.
Kiddos should be older as Rocco is not a fan of a lot of "in his face" type of interaction. Once he knows you, he likes to sit close to you with your arm around him. He loves to be around people and will scoot closer for affection when he wants it. He used to live with a small dog in his previous home and did well! At the shelter, he has done wonderful for his dog introductions. Same for cats! Very neutral and sweet; as long as pets in the home will be gentle with him, we think he'd love their company.
If you
This fluffy-eared dollface is Waffle. She is about one-and-a-half-years old and is spayed. Well, we haven't known Waffle for very long yet but in the short time that we've been able to spend with her, we sure have fallen in love quickly!
We love that she has those feathery, floofy ear tufts and they make her even more cute...as if that were even possible. Anyways! We're working with Waffle to help her become more comfortable being handled. Believe it or not, she was found as a stray. We'd love someone to adopt Waffle who has worked with bunnies who are a bit unsure and need a little bit more socializing.
We have seen her out and about with other bunny friends and she showed positive interest! She hopped around here and there and seemed to have a really nice time in their company.
Even though she isn't much of a fan of being held right now, we have learned that she really likes to explore! As soon as we take her into another room or let her out in the bunny room, she starts sniffing and her adventure begins.
Just please be patient while she is getting to know you. The shelter environment can be difficult for pets who aren't yet comfortable. We have already seen her learn to trust more than she was when she arrived, so we're sure she'll improve in a quiet home with lots of love!

If you
Hi new friends, I'm Yoko. I love snuggles and love and I am absolutely a professional cuddler. I know exactly how to sneak into your arms and I like to stay there as long as you allow. The humans here will tell you that they could see me asking for a nap and snuggle-time every day. I can't help it...I'm just a lovebug.
One of my favorite things to do is to be around people. I just love everyone. I may be a little timid initially but it doesn't take me long to realize that we are all friends and I could be missing a potential cuddle opportunity if I don't warm up quickly!
I'd love for my new family to teach me good-girl manners! I am learning how to sit already because I am super smart. I love treats so I'm sure I'll be an easy girl to teach if you take the time!
As far as other furry friends go, my human friends here think I may do okay with a dog who is more on the calm side. The longer I was around an easy-going dog at the shelter, the more comfortable I became. I would prefer no kitty friends!
I am about one year old, am spayed, and am about 43-pounds. I'd love to be the newest member of your family. Love, pretty Yoko girl.
"Adoptable Delilah is so good about entertaining herself, even if she can't find a toy laying around😂" -Delilah's foster mom.
She has done well with other furry friends (so long as a proper and slow introduction is done). Delilah is so very loving and would make the perfect companion for just about anyone, she is very adaptable!
When Delilah first came into the shelter, she had some medical stuff going on. Luckily, the wonderful vet team at MHS worked hard to figure out what was going on and how to make her better and, even better, it was a relatively easy fix! Delilah will need to be on MiraLAX (can be found at the drug store and sold over the counter) twice a day to keep her GI issues in check. If you have any questions or are interested in meeting this sweet girl, your first step is to call MHS at 219-872-4499! She is about four months old and is spayed🩶
Nala & Sandy
We wanted to share a bit of happiness with you all! These are two of our longest residents: Sandy (all tan) and Nala (tan/white). We always knew that Sandy was one of the most dog-friendly dogs you will meet. She makes dogs who are not-so-comfortable becomes comfortable! Well, lately, Nala has been showing positive interest in other dog friends so we were hoping these two girls would be good friends...and they sure were🥹🩷🥹
They ran and chased and explore! When they were too tired to keep sprinting around, they both laid down in the shade and were the cutest ever together. They definitely do not need to be adopted together but either one of them could be a great fit if your resident dog needs a buddy. Or, even if you don't have a resident dog but maybe you need a dog who will do well out in public or on hiking trails around other dogs, consider Sandy or Nala!
Sandy is about two years old and is about 55-pounds. Nala is about six-and-a-half years old and is about 59-pounds. Both girls are spayed. Come meet them this weekend. Either, or both, would be wonderful family dogs in every way🩷🩷
What a gorgeous princess! Meet Zoey! She is a little bit younger than about four years old and she is spayed. The best thing about Zoey is that her beautiful purrsonality matches her beautiful face. She is so, so, so loving.
Zoey's favorite toys to play with are stuffed animals. She also is very interested when we bring out feathery toys! Her fluffy paws move quickly when they want to!
In her previous home, Zoey did well with kiddos who were gentle. She is a bit afraid of dogs and we are still giving her time to hang out with other kitties to see if she has a preference there.
She is a little shy at first but once she has acclimated and now that she knows us, Zoey loves it when we come to visit her. She'll roll on her side for belly rubs and has yet to say no to a chin scratch. Getting to know Zoey has made our hearts happy. She is just a total doll and we adore her. Please ask to see her when you arrive at MHS!
Everyone needs a chatty kitty in their lives! So, you need Sharpay! If you want to know what she had to say, come to MHS to meet her and let her tell you herself😉
If a cat can have FOMO (fear of missing out) that is definitely Sharpay! This girl will follow you ALL over the place, and if you leave her behind, she makes sure you know you forgot your other half! She has the very classic torti voice and she loves to use it!
Sharpay's main goal in life is to be around people. She makes fast friends with anyone that comes into the house and really just wants to nap by them. She is a total sweetheart that is looking for companionship and lots of chin scratches! The extent you have to go regarding playing is pretty much just carrying the large cat toys anywhere she goes, as if they are her kittens.
She has gotten along well with adult cats (male and female) and has been working her way to hanging out around large dogs. If you have a calm and cat friendly dog, we think she would do well.
Sharpay is about one and a half years old and is spayed. We hope you stop by the shelter to meet Sharpay. She'll be waiting for you!
There are a million characteristics about Diamond that makes her the perfect girl to adopt. To just name a few, she bonds with those who she trusts and develops the most beautiful relationship. She's also an absolutely amazing adventure dog!
If you want a dog to accompany you on all your hiking outings, we have the perfect girl for you: Diamond. She is awesome at all kinds of camping+etc. fun! She is hoping that another adventure-fan will adopt her.
