How is cancer diagnosed?
There are a variety of diagnostic procedures that your veterinarian may turn to if they suspect your pet may have cancer. With some cancers, a fine needle aspirate is used to gather cells from a mass or suspicious area so they can then be examined under a microscope. Biopsies involve collecting tissues from the area in question, and then, having a pathologist perform a comprehensive analysis. X-rays and other imaging methods such as an MRI can be used to assess the extent of the cancer, and many hospitals now have access to ultrasound technologies to further evaluate the potential spread of a tumor.

takes place each November, and according to Colorado State University, 1 in 4 dogs and 1 in 5 cats will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life.
Sadly, cancer is the leading cause of death in pets middle-aged and older, and certain types of cancer are more common than others.

The six most diagnosed canine cancers are:
• Lymphoma (approximately 24% of all new canine cancer diagnoses)
• Osteosarcoma (most common primary bone tumor in dogs)
• Mast cell tumors (most common skin tumor in dogs)
• Oral melanoma
• Hemangiosarcoma (cancer of the cells lining blood vessels)
• Transitional cell carcinoma (cancer of the urinary system)
In cats, the four most diagnosed cancers are:
• Lymphoma- can affect cats of any age
• Squamous cell carcinoma- the most common oral tumor
• Fibrosarcoma- cancer of the soft tissue
• Mammary tumors- most commonly spreads to other locations

Happy National Black Cat Day! 🐈‍⬛🐾
We are excited to announce our new addition, Pepper!
Some of you may have already met her, if you haven't no worries! She wanders around and plays for a bit before taking a cat nap or being groomed by Fluffer who adores her. She gets along well with our other two cats, Jelly and MJ. Pepper has been a great new little addition to our hospital!

It’s National Veterinary Technician Week! 🐾

We know it takes an entire team to provide the best care to our patients. Our team has a true passion in everything they do to with the shared goal of providing high quality care to your pet.
This week we are celebrating our entire team of Vet Techs, Assistants, CSRs, and Doctors.

We want to give a huge shout out to our Veterinary Technicians! They bring their extensive education and experience to the team. They play a critical role by providing treatments, assisting during surgery and completing diagnostic test.

Another shout out to our Veterinary Assistants! They ensure each patient receives the attention they need and are a vital second set of hands to the doctors and technicians when needed.

Another shout out to our Client Service Representatives (CSRs)! These team members are the one greeting you at the front desk. They have many duties including client communication through phone, email, and text. They are the first faces you see when entering the clinic to greet you with a smile.

Lastly, but surely not the least important, our Doctors. They help lead the team to provide patient center care to all our patients.

Our team is here for all your pet needs. From congratulating you on your new furry family member, to comforting anxious pets to assisting with lifesaving procedures.
Their passion and commitment does not go unnoticed! We appreciate our entire team not just this week but every day!
