Man crush Monday goes out to Archie

Breeds: Husky, Akita, Pit Bull, German Shepherd

Favorite activities: dunkin donuts drive thru, catching jalapeño sky rasins (bumble bees), standing in kiddie pools, and howling first thing in the morning to be let out with my chickens🥰

He usually just boards with me when his owners go on vacation.

However this guy will be with me getting a complete tune up this summer!

He's 4yrs old starting his training journey!
It's never too late to start training!

Hello all!

Here to inform some and remind others!
I am only taking my existing clients until the 26th of this month!

My son is having his tonsils and adenoids removed. So we are asking for space, patience, and positive wishes at this time.

Of course if there are any questions about your program, dog, or behavioral changes that you feel should be brought to my attention. Feel free to call, text, email, or message here.

New clients will be receiving a reminder call or text to confirm evaluation date, time, and location. After the 25th!

Soooo... I broke my phone
Clients: All training and boarding for Thursday is to stay as booked ill see you at our lesson.
Friday and Saturday should be normal as well (unless my front screen breaks)
Friends: I'm alive. But busy. No need to come through.

my last text didn't go through... they have been amazing as usual! Theo has been a gentleman using all his manners! He has given Mindy the tour, given the rules and regs, and her official "camp" welcome. Gold star for Peep
Mindy has officially "let her hair down" and ate all her dinner with no issues, and is requesting bunkbeds for her home. Mindy and Bandit have acquainted and shown each other how fast they are.

Let's talk dog!
Appeasing
It's a behavior and conversation skill we see in dogs for many reasons.
Let's break it down into 2 categories real quick.

•Active submissions: Is usually attention seeking behavior in the form of
- Nuzzling
- Licking (including mouth, ears, ge****ls)
- Jumping
- Pawing
- Teeth "clacking"
- Crouching
- Play bows

•Passive submissions: This looks like a dramatic reduction in their activity. This goal is to divert the attention and is mostly seen in lower ranking dogs especially when they're feeling threatened by a higher rank.
- Avoiding eye contact
- Low slow body movements
- Tucked tail
- Freezing or Flopping

A lot of dogs who are in my calm and confident program are working on these behaviors/ communication skills.
And the biggest factor...getting the humans they interact with to read these signs properly!

Off leash freedoms

That means recall
Recall is one of the best things you can teach your dog!
Follow through is a must, and this is a perfect video to show you guys.

If you watch her body language
The snow and her tiny human are "higher value" then training
Mine and her follow through matched.
No rapid firing of commands
Staying calm and clear with communication is key.
And the release command!!

She wasn't getting into anything she wasn't supposed to, she wasn't too far away, she was enjoying herself.
But reminding her to check in is important.

What's more high value then yourself to your dog?
(Theres no wrong answers. Just a reminder of what you could be working on)

Sad to say this but I'm taking a step back from The Bully Barn as I approach the arrival of my human baby.
Stay tuned though as new renovations are being done in this time! Going to miss my clients for the time I am away! So feel free to still send me pictures, videos, progress and questions you may have.

We often talk about obedience in this field.
But do you work on giving your dog the coping skills and "bounce back" from uncontrolled situations?

Here at The Bully Barn we work on more then obedience. Once you can understand, read, and give your dog proper outlets you get to confidently enjoy your dog in everyday life! No matter what curve balls are thrown in your path.

Happy pupdate!

As a lot of you know I rescued this girl Billi over a year ago in hopes for a better life.
She was left tied to a bed in a motel 6 after her owner was taken by authorities for a non animal related crime.
She was terrified, covered in excrements, no food or water in her reach.

I successfully got her surrendered to me and brought her home to start her rehabilitation for this loud, lunging, anxiety driven dog.
She had a long road to learn "how to dog properly". But she did it and has passed the tests. Friendly with kids, adults, dogs, cats. (No chickens or squirrels though😂)

I'm beyond happy to announce she has found her forever home with a great family!

Congratulations to Billi and her new family! To many years of long walks, adventures, love, car rides and a bed she can call her own!

Let's normalize "a calm dog is a happy dog!"

A lot of times when I send pictures to owners ill send them one with a full caption!

Why? Because if I send a picture like this one I usually get...
"OH they look bored, sad, tired"

This specific dog has taken a lot of time and a lot of work achieving "calm"

Why? She was abandoned. Full of anxiety, poor choices and an obnoxious bark.

So calm is something she deserves.

A happy dog is also a calm dog.

Meet TAFFY aka Lieutenant Dan(ielle)

She’s clearly not a bully breed
She doesn’t meet my minimum weight
She does however meet my stubborn and “hole puncher” standards

Today this stubborn girl met her match the transitional lead 😂

Last week we worked on having it on her face, and just sitting without digging at her face.

Let’s just say today it took her a while to work through fight and flight.
And then the “play dead” mode set in.
Finally she learned to use her 4 nubs one in front of the other!

Working without pulling✔️
Not biting ankles or leash ✔️
…now for cleaning up her leash manners and endurance but we’ll be easy on that as she is ONLY 15-16 weeks old!

The amount of dogs that look forward to seeing me.

The amount of people who are comfortably, calmly, confidently living with, exploring with their dogs now.

The amount of animals that have helped me, taught me, loved me, learned from me, trust me..

Yeppp that’s worth every drool slanger, tooth hug, dog fur filled filters, every callous, nose prints on all the glass, muddy paw prints tracked all through the property.

My life is fu***ng messy as hell...but daang I love that my foot prints leave lasting impressions

Gucci and Twinkle

Sometimes I get clients that really make me think out of the box! Building healthy confidence Building healthy relationships Building YOUR pack That’s what I do. I’m not a “normal” trainer. I don’t have a one size fits all program And sometimes when I don’t have the best compatibility dog wise… …I have cats that have all been raised with dogs (Even my cats are crate trained, and on potty break schedules) When things get tough.. ..get patient! When your traditional way of approaching a situation isn’t working.. ..sometimes you have to get weird! Thanks Gucci for helping Twinkle continue her growth! **This isn’t their introduction. This is approx 75hours in**

Intro to slip lead. Paulie🐾

Paulies first time on a slip lead! Definitely needs some fine tuning, but finding “less is more” with this dude is going to come in clutch. Halfway through the walk (which I naturally didn’t video.) Paulie and his dad were amazed they had an enjoyable time without pulling. They learned redirection, soft calm face before proceeding, no barking or lunging at distractions on the walk. Long way to go but that’s why I love having a starter video! Let’s cheer them on and watch their education, relationship and confidence grow!

Off leash social

King (neutered):green collar, staying close, happy trot Watson (intact): white pup, on a healthy scent, learning how to mind his business and not force play They had a great time on their off leash social today! When they interacted they were appropriate. When they disengaged they did it gracefully. Followed up by on leash structured walk to wind them down and reel them in!
