That suns out, and if your dog loves to swim, theyโre out too! ๐ถ๐
We are all ears today and talking about ear infections, which can come with swimming and bathing around this time of year.
๐ Swimming or bathing exposes the ears to water, which can further increase the moisture content in the ear canal.
๐ Excess water content with an enclosed ear canal makes the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and yeast. Shout out to our floppy ear dogs.
๐ Signs your dog may be dealing with an ear infection are: redness, swelling, odor, colored debris, and head shaking.
๐ To help prevent ear infections, especially after swimming or bathing, use a general dog safe ear cleaner that cleanses and dries.
Any questions, ask us next time you are in for your dogs appointment on what ear cleaner is best for you and how to clean your dogs ears! ๐พ

We talk about heartworm prevention all the time, and thatโs because itโs so important! Not only for a monthly intestinal parasite dewormer, but to prevent against heartworms too. If not administered properly, and if bitten by an affected mosquito, the heartworm larvae can actually grow into adult worms and migrate within the body. Here is a video of a microfilaria, or an immature stage of a heartworm, that we can see in a dog blood sample! ๐ชฑ
