It’s National Veterinary Technician Week, and MARS is fortunate to have 3️⃣ of the very best! Veterinary medicine requires an incredible amount of mental, physical, and emotional strength, and Katheryn, Lauren, and Olivia are rockstars.

Our nurses treat and love their patients like their own pets - when asked, Lauren often claims to have “like a hundred dogs.” 🤭 Olivia and Katheryn are newer to the MARS scene, but they have hit the ground running like someone left the gate open! All three exhibit compassion that shines brighter than they know. ☀️

Happy Arthritis Awareness Week (and spooky season 👻) from Andy! Did you know that osteoarthritis (OA) is the leading cause of chronic pain in dogs? Your pets cannot tell you about their pain, but they can show you by limping, having trouble getting up or down, and hesitating to climb stairs, among other signs. Especially if your pet is 8 years old or older, try to monitor their bodies, behaviors, and habits to make sure you don’t suspect OA pain. But if you do, MARS is here to help! Just ask the triceratops... 😉🩵🐾

The MARS and MAC gang had a great night out supporting the Humane Society of Elkhart County at their best in show event! It was great to see so many of our patients strutting their stuff on the runway!

Our very own, Goose, won People's Choice! Goose is owned by our receptionist Heather. He was adopted through a rescue. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with congenital glaucoma and lost his right eye. Shortly after that, seizures started and he was diagnosed with Epilepsy. He is on several medications to help control his seizures. Shortly after his first birthday, he was diagnosed with a form of aggressive bone cancer in his front right leg. His leg was removed and chemotherapy was started. Goose has been a trooper through all of it and has the best life ever! We weren't sure he would make it to his second birthday but he did and is thriving! We love you Gooser! Congratulations on your big win!

And Chico pico...you are 17! We love you so much buddy! Chico comes to MARS several days a week for rehabilitation therapy and pain management. He may be old, but old is not a disease! He has the best care ever and we are so grateful for his dedicated owners!

And little Benji has also had a rough go! Coming from a rescue, learning how to be loved and missing a limb as well. But, he is crushing it in his cart and we are so glad he is happy and pain free again!

And, don't the ladies clean up nicely?!? Do you recognize us without scrubs on?

Let’s have a round of “a-paws” for all of our reasons to celebrate! 🐾🎉 🎓

Middlebury Animal Clinic + MARS patient collaboration! 🦆

Sometimes we see ducks! This pet duck named Feathers was bitten on the foot by a snapping turtle. Now she has a septic (infected) joint and is limping. I love to try new things and nerd out big time on learning! Lauren took some thermal images (mainly for fun to see what we could see on a duck). We were able to drain the infected joint (a first for me on a duck!), and looked at the joint fluid under the microscope to try and determine what bacteria were in the joint. This helped to select the appropriate antibiotic. We did a laser session to help with pain and inflammation and she loved it! Feathers totally relaxed in Stacy’s arms during the session. And she went home with antibiotics and pain medications in hope of a speedy recovery!
