Howdy folks! Anyone have room their hearts and homes for another dog or two? Bagel and Hopper both belonged to Doug and they are still looking for their forever home!

Bagel is a 3 year old spayed female Alaskan Husky/German Short Hair Pointer mix, about 50lbs. Bagel is super playful and snuggly, but she can be shy with new people. She is house trained and well mannered, and gets along well with other dogs- so much so we are asking she go to home with other dogs to increase her success. She is also good with kids and cats. She has never been trained to be a sled dog, but she does pull some on a leash so the potential is there! Otherwise she would love a cushy dog bed or couch with an active family.

Hopper is a 2 year old neutered male Alaskan Husky/German Short Hair Pointer mix, about 60lbs. He is very sweet and loves to play with other dogs! He can be weary of men. Once Hopper gets to know you he has lots of personality and is very goofy. He has ran canicross successfully a few times, but never been on a team. He is house trained and well mannered. We also are looking for Hopper to go to a home with other dogs, as he can be anxious flying solo. He is good with cats and kids, so also could be a great addition to an active family.

Both Hopper and Bagel are staying at or being fostered through Homeward Bound, Addison County's Humane Society. Check out their website or give them a call if you are interested in meeting either or both of these babies! DM with any questions, and please share to find these pups a loving place to land. Thank you!

Please share to find these wonderful babies homes!

10/23/2023

A few weeks after Doug’s passing, we are all mourning his presence and still working hard to find homes for a few dogs from his kennel. Most of his babies went to mushers all over New England and Ontario, and there are even several currently adjusting to “couch dog life.”

The last few dogs in search of a home are being loved and cared for by Homeward Bound, Addison County's Humane Society. Extremely goofy, snuggly and trainable, these babies make amazing pets! Please take a moment to check them out and see if you have room in your heart and home for a wonderful dog.

We want to thank the folks at Homeward Bound for all they do, and their support following Doug’s passing. We are immensely grateful they made room for these great pups and are taking wonderful care of them.

We also want to extend a huge thank you to the dozens of mushers from all over the continent that reached out, connected folks, transported dogs, and welcomed Doug’s dogs into their kennels. As terribly sad a time this has been, the overwhelming amount of support from the mushing community meant it did not take long for almost every dog to find a safe place to land.

Lastly, I must thank the numerous volunteers that cared for Doug’s dogs after he passed and helped with the dissolution of the kennel. Right away folks showed up to feed and water, drive dogs all over NE, move muddy dog houses, and spread the news of dogs in need of homes.

This has been a huge team effort- as everything is in mushing! The final stretch is finding these last few babies a warm couch and best friend(s).

Sending love and gratitude to all the folks that came together in this sad time.

Woof,
Jules and the CHK Team

Doug Butler AKA Hollywood AKA Party on a Sled (or The Bad Guy if you asked him) died yesterday morning. We are grateful he went doing what he loved most, feeding and loving his babies.

Doug was always prepared to crack a joke (or crack open a beer). His humor, stories, infectious excitement, and deep love for both people and his dogs are deeply missed. Despite being dealt a challenging and ever changing, deck of cards, Doug did not dwell on the negatives. In honor of the “Crazy Grandpa”: go tell someone the same story for the 18th time with so much passion and enthusiasm that no one can tell you they’ve already heard it. We can all hope to life a life as rich and authentic as Doug.

We also want to thank the mushing community for being so supportive not only with loving words and memories but also in helping us find new homes for his dogs. We have a number of mushers already lined up, but there are still more dogs (both sled dogs and “couch” dogs) that need homes.

In addition to being incredible athletes, our dogs love cuddles and make fantastic pets. Please message us on Facebook or Instagram if you or anyone you know is looking for a lovable and energetic new companion. We have volunteers who are able to take care of the dogs at the kennel while we find them new homes.

Are you looking to adopt a dog? As our dogs get older and let us know they don't want to be sled dogs anymore, we look for new loving homes for them. We are now retiring Kathleen, Sugar, and (fan favorite) Garlic! We also have a couple of other dogs of various ages up for adoption.

Check out our website (https://www.cobblehillkennel.com/adoptions) for more pictures and info about all of our adoptable dogs. Please feel free to reach out via email or messenger with any questions.

Our many teams had a BLAST at the Frost Mountain Sled Dog race this past weekend. Thank you to Pennsylvania Sled Dog Club for putting on this great event! All canines and humans raced their hearts out and took wonder in the gorgeous landscape!

Our teams and how they did:

2 dog Skijor:
Jules raced on their snowboard pulled by the amazing Abby and Cody and scored 1st place!

4 dog class:
Claire raced with Princey, Anchorage, Zephyr and Garlic and cruised into 1st place in the sportsman!

Betsy came in hot on her heels and landed 2nd in her first race ever (and second time on a sled- wow!!) Her solid 3 dog crew Freedom, Alex and Frank took great care of her while zooming!

Emma raced with brothers Chewey and Pretty Boy in lead and Sandy and Cheddar in wheel, taking 4th in the Pro class.

6 Dog class:
Jules flew down the trail thanks to Abby, Cody, Hickory, Peanut Butter, Ash and Astro. This crew snagged 2nd but missed 1st place in the Pro by 5 seconds!!

CJ had the help of Robin, Guinn, Pretzel, Flapjack, Grits and Bleu to also score 2nd in the Sportsman! Such speedy babies!

Big thanks to Bridget Duval for helping our teams get out!!

Thanks to Jenn Martin for sponsoring Birch again this winter!

Birch is one of our two year old pups from Pretzel’s tree litter. She has the most adorable pointy ears that she tucks back when she thinks she might get some snuggles. Last winter she was a solid yearling but was not quite consistent enough to make the top team. This year she has earned her spot on the A team and is stoked to pull for both tours and races!

If you are interested in sponsoring one of our athletes for the season, please visit our website via the link in our bio or directly at: https://www.cobblehillkennel.com/product-page/race-sponsorship

Please note that our hats are currently sold out, but we have ordered more and will mail them out sponsors as soon as possible.

Remember the puppies from Addison County Fair & Field Days and the Champlain Valley Fair last summer? Did you kind of want to take one home? Now you have the chance!

Since they are all over a year old we have been able to start training them. Many of them absolutely love running. Some might even make the "A Team" this winter! As always though, not all of our dogs want to be sled dogs, so we are looking for good homes for some of our "yearling" dogs.

Check out https://www.cobblehillkennel.com/adoptions for more info about these dogs, as well as some of our older ones we are also looking to place. If you are interested in more information about any of our dogs or the adoption process, please message us or reach out by email ([email protected]).

Our Story

In 1975 Doug Butler bought his first team of sled dogs, and he’s been racing ever since. He’s raced in Vermont, Alaska, and everywhere in between, but now he wants to share his passion for the sport. Ben and Jules, two students from Middlebury College, helped him do just that by founding Cobble Hill Kennel to offer affordable dogsled rides in Middlebury, Vermont. Visit us in the fall and ride in our custom built cart to see how we train the dogs without snow, or take a winter tour to experience an authentic dogsled ride!
