Maisy has a bit of anxiety, which sometimes causes her to lose interest in foodâmaking training a little trickier. Doug, her owner, reached out to me for help and together we found a way to motivate Maisy through her anxiety. Instead of using food as a reward, we introduced a favorite toy to capture her attention and bring her out of her anxious state.
We used the toy as a lure to help Maisy focus. By backing up and encouraging her to follow the toy, we created a positive and engaging experience. Over time, Maisy learned to associate the toy with fun and reward, making her more confident and motivated to participate. As a result, she was more eager to come when called, helping her build trust and focus during training.

Meet Maisy, a dog who loves to play outside but doesnât always want to come inside when itâs time. Doug, her owner, reached out to me for help with this challenge. Every time heâd try to get Maisy to go inside, sheâd resist and want to stay outdoors.
To make this transition more fun for Maisy, we introduced the âGo Find Itâ game. Doug would lead her toward the door and say, âGo find it!ââgiving her the chance to search for treats or toys near the entrance. After Maisy had a little fun, Doug would release her to continue playing outside. This gave her the freedom she wanted, while also reinforcing the idea that going inside was just part of the fun.
Over time, Maisy began to understand that going towards the door didnât mean the end of her playtime. Instead, she was rewarded with treats and the opportunity to go back out and play afterward. Eventually, she eagerly did âGo Find Itâ and walked into the house without hesitation, happy and relaxed.

Diego was initially terrified of approaching the car, let alone jumping in. We started with small stepsârewarding him with treats just for getting close, then playing a âgo find itâ game around the car to make it fun and positive. Gradually, he became comfortable enough to sniff around and eventually hop in! With patience and positive reinforcement, Diego is now ready for any road trip ð
