As we prepare to spend the coldest Thanksgiving Day in NJ since 1901, take a moment to be thankful for our homes and central heating. Our bird friends outside don't have that luxury. Winter weather and temperatures take a heavy toll on wildlife and this season is shaping up to be a particularly severe one. You can help by feeding, providing water and by providing shelter. Check out these Winter Shelters and Roosting Boxes available here at Wild Bird Kingdom. They give the birds a better chance of surviving the worst Mother Nature will throw at us all.
Looking for help for someone in the Edison area. She has a Gambel's Quail in her yard and is trying to figure out how to help it. For those of you who don't know, Gambel's Quail are native to parts of West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and Mexico. Definintely not a native NJ bird. Does anyone know of someone breeding them in NJ in the Edison area? Or know of someone who is keeping them and has lost one? Any help is appreciated. I will contact the homeowner with any information put forward. Thanks!
Just came in today..... New bird houses from Bayview Birdhouses. Love the bark on the front. Did you remember to get Dad something for Father's Day??
For those of you who have been wondering or asking about hummingbirds, they are definitely on their way. Last week they were barely out of North Carolina but, one super achiever managed to get to NJ on Easter Sunday. Whew!
Come in and check out the new Humm-Bug Hummingbird Protein Feeder - no nectar required! It uses fruit to attract and hatch fruit flies - an important part of the protein required by hummingbirds and their young.
