We recently embarked on an exciting journey with a charming puppy named Widow, purchased for a dedicated client with a vision for her future as a personal protection dog.

From the moment we brought her home, we focused on building a strong bond through consistent training. We began with essential commands like sit, stay, and come, fostering trust while laying the foundation for her development.

Socialization was crucial, as we introduced Widow to various environments, people, and pets. Group training sessions helped her gain confidence, while also enhancing her protective instincts.

As her training advanced, we tailored it to prepare her for her role in personal protection. Each session focused on building both her obedience and instinctive responses to potential threats.

After months of dedication, we proudly tested Widow’s skills through the Working Dogs of America (WDA) and achieved an obedience title. This accomplishment reflects her hard work and the bond we formed together.

Now, Widow is ready to embrace her future as a personal protection dog, equipped with the skills to provide safety while remaining a loving companion. We’re excited to see her thrive in her forever home, ready to take on her important new role!

🚀 Just wrapped up our 4th trial and it was a total win! 🏆

We had 19 teams throw down in the obedience and protection game this year, and we handed out 17 titles, including 2 Police Dog titles🔥

Big shoutout to all the competitors—training your dog to perform in front of others and a judge is no easy feat, but we hope it brought you closer to your buddy! And to everyone who had our back during the trial, we couldn’t have done it without you. 💪

Widow is almost done with her training for her owner, and all I have left as a foundation is to create neutrality to the collar and then teach her to escape or avoid what she feels from the collar. So, in this video, as you see her make mistakes and not be as perfect as she can be, I'll use negative reinforcement and positive punishment with the e-collar to reinforce or punish behaviors.

As for her obedience, I have moved her from food to a ball for the behaviors she has a gesture/hand signal to verbal command for. I expect her to return to food for new behaviors or to come back and reinforce old behaviors through high repetition.

Dutch Shepherd Puppy Evaluation Part 4 - Sound Sensitivity

The sound sensitivity portion is to test a puppy's reaction to auditory stimuli and noises of varying intensity. During this test, the evaluator exposes the puppy to different sounds, such as clapping hands, dropping objects, or sudden noises, to assess the puppy's response. The evaluator observes how the puppy reacts, whether it startles, shows signs of fear or anxiety, or remains calm and unperturbed.
